I think both were signed by Whitehawk at some point but don't think they're still there,

Jake Robinson, still only 28, now plays for 'em too. Honestly thought he'd end up at a higher level than conference south..
John Sullivan played his last football on loan at Cambridge, from Portsmouth. He suffered from depression, or something very similar, came to realise that he hated the life of a footballer, and has now retired from the game, and is retraining for a new career.

Could have been a decent keeper. To this day, his performance away to Leicester (when we wore their kit) remains the best Albion keeper's performance I've seen.

He also saved a couple of penalties during the shootout at Shrewsbury, to qualify for the southern final of the JPT against Luton.

Steve Penney never fulfilled his potential due to injury.

Peter Smith. Very good first season. Exciting, attacking full-back and was awarded player of the season. Absolute rubbish for the next 4 seasons. It was almost like he forgot how to play the game. Probably lost his confidence and desire due to the off field problems.

yes...he also had a game at the end of our Div 3 title year (we'd already won the title at that point) away to, I think, Halifax and played ok. The Preston game was the following season and yes, he made a howler. Don't think he played again

Away at Port Vale old div 2. 1-0 win with a Watto free kick in front of a packed away end. Great days.

Alan Duffy - scored a great goal on his debut and clearly had bags of talent but rather too fond of the booze and started looking like a beach ball.

Jason Peake - had loads of ability but scarcely made any effort for us. Looked like he'd rather be anywhere but playing football

Brian Dear - he wasn't ours but he scored at a healthy rate in this loan spell for us (and scored at a reasonable rate for West Ham too). Struggled with weight problems so probably had a few off-field issues but really should have had a longer career than he did

How has this thread got this far without a mention of one Kemy Agustien? Decent career in the Netherlands, Dutch U19, U20 and U21, 40-odd games for Swansea and clearly very talented... The rest is very much history.

Playing top flight in the Netherlands and representing his country on a few occasions is going nowhere?

Jake Robinson showed early talent then didnt progress. The young keeper, name alludes me, played 1 game at Withdean and let in a howler then never played again for the first team.

Either Chris May or Will Packham. Wouldn't say either of those represented unfulfilled potential though. Both of them achieved precisely what many expected of them: that is to say, faded into obscurity after a single, unsuccessful appearance. Nobody ever thought Packham or May we're going to be the saviour of the Albion back line.

Robinson, slightly different, as there were at one stage genuine hopes for his future.

If 'Albion Unfulfilled Talent' was in the OED, it would be accompanied by a picture of Jake Robinson.

Albert Jarrett. Looked half-decent with us in early games then faded badly. After a couple of spells out on loan somehow ended up in the Premier League with Watford, where he played one game before sinking without trace down the leagues. Extremely sulky kid with more than a touch of the Leon knight attitude about him.

Always thought Jim McNulty could've had a good career at Championship level, was never really the same after that freak injury against Crewe(?) when he got his kidney smushed.
