Looks like they are in with a decent shout of doing it again.

Their run in:

Forest In form team fighting for UCL 0/1 pt
Spurs (after travel to Norway) 3pts
Wolves (on the beach) 3 pts
Liverpool ( on the beach/celebrating with their fans) 3pts

Our run in is strangely similar, but do we have the moment necessary to get match Palaces results

Newcastle - In form team fighting for UCL
Wolves (on the beach)
Liverpool (on the beach)
Spurs ( on the beach celebrating/commiserating with their fans)

Win against West Ham and we should have enough to keep them at bay.
Lose and they will be breathing down our neck.

Yep, win Saturday and we'll finish above them.

Well, that was a season, wasn't it.

Next season we'll finish Top 10 again and Pilarse, just behind us in 14th no doubt?

Big impact for both clubs is going to be who we retain. For us Mitoma will be leaving but I hope we keep Baleba and sign a striker to replace the outgoing JP.

For Pilarse it's whether they can keep Eze and Gheui, and who they can attract with European football.

Ah but will you win a trophy next season? What happens if Fab is tempted by a bigger club? Will Dunk keep playing? Will our European tour be a hindrance? Will not playing in Europe be a bonus for Br*ghton?

And, hasn’t Wharton been linked with Cty?

All good questions. Replies in order...

Perhaps.

Nobody will come for him yet.

He will but will get fewer matches.

Probably a bit.

Hopefully.

Cheers! :)

A thought has belatedly occurred. Do you worry about Glasner being poached at all? After all, he’s put himself in the spotlight by, you know, winning something.

This is a worry. For my money he's up there with the best managers in the PL and naturally a coach of that stature won't be here for the long term. Like Wharton, I hope we'll get one more season.

I have a query about that. If he is one of the best managers and palace have a better team that the lot that came 8th who had loads of injuries, where has it all gone wrong. I am really struggling to see how a brilliant manager with brilliant players would come 12th.

We had a rubbish start due to key players being injured, transfer business being carried out too late & general exhaustion within a small squad. Glasner didn't get a pre-season with our squad, because we had more than half of our first team playing in the finals of the Euros for England, Copa America for Colombia, Olympics for France, etc. Mateta, for example, arrived for pre-season training the day before our opening game of the season.

Palace have an excellent first XI, but very little depth behind it. Wharton came back from England duty injured and required surgery on a groin problem that plagued him for most of the season, meaning that he only made 20 starts & completed 90 minutes twice. Eze was playing through a foot injury for months, and the likes of Mateta, Guehi and Munoz had issues with fatigue until about October - at which point we became very good & maintained that form for the rest of the season.

Premier League football is a squad game these days, so these aren't excuses - it is entirely Palace's fault that we haven't recruited suitable depth to account for these factors. I do think it is a fair explanation of our problems though.

Every team had players missing in the summer. Some even changed their manager. Palace had far fewer injuries than some and their main players featured in almost all the games.

We had the most injuries (by a long way), a new manager and few players started the number of games palace key players did. It all sounds like pathetic excuses to be honest. What if Brighton did not have ten missing in the middle of the season?

Palace were incredibly fortunate to have so few injuries. To secure a creditable 12th and winning the cup is decent whether it was varcical or not. But let’s not pretend other teams don’t have far more valid excuses.

At no point have I suggested that Brighton weren't unlucky with injuries or that you didn't have your own issues. You asked why we finished 12th and I told you: we had a bad opening to the season for the reasons that I described. As soon as that difficult period was out of the way, we were consistently very good and ending up taking home the first major trophy that either of our clubs has ever managed to win :)

Any statos know how many, if any games, we started with the same 1st eleven in consecutive games. We seemed to be forced into changes every game due to injury or suspensions.

I don't know that but I do know that had we not dropped 14 points in 6 home games to sides that finished in the lower half of the league we would have finished second this season.

Breaking news this!

As if our inability to field our best XI week in week out had nothing to do with that
