I would also have liked to nominate Bram Stoker’s Dracula in the early 90s, in a hot non airconditioned Odeon cinema. But I had to walk out half way through and therefore didn’t see the whole film, but I did get a refund as I left

I saw its Sussex premiere at the Marina, loved it, Gary Oldman brilliant.

For 'So bad it was good' I'd nominate the original Red Dawn. Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, that Thompson lady who played Marty's mother in Back To The Future, among others.

It was essentially two hours of U.S, Cold War propaganda.

"AVENGE ME!!!"

Oh and Robocop 3 deserves a shout.

The remake of Red Dawn make the original look like There Will Be Blood.

I don’t recall ever walking out of the cinema.

No wait. I did. Shia Leboeuf’s Honey Boy. Only film I have ever left the cinema twenty mins in.

I frequently stop watching films at home if they’re shit. Life’s too short.

Reading this thread makes me realize why I have been to The Cinema fewer than 20 times in my life.
Probably less times, as well.
An ex GF loved the cinema. Ever film we saw (there were 2, I found I was washing my hair a great deal as the relationship progressed to its inevitable conclusion) had me squirming with boredom, while she giggled and gasped with awe and wonder.
One was Four Lions. I enjoyed bits of it, but I already knew 'Islamic Terrorists' were soppy ****s.
Why one had to be a ginger convert, no idea.
Shame because I love Chris Morris.
Maybe it was the company
Many years earlier I went with another GF to see Raging Bull.
Christ.
It didn't help that the chatter and smoking in the cinema (In Crawley) made it almost impossible to follow the plot.
But it was so f***ing long.
I was expecting to be awarded a lower second in Cinema Studies afterwards just for sitting through it all.

I went to a showing of Monty Python's Holy Grail or whatever exactly it's called the other day.

Now, it's a great film. I think I've seen it all the way through once before and obviously various bits loads of times over the years.

At the start they had a load of clips of the Pythons going on about how great it was that we were all at the cinema watching the film as a communal thing in a cinema yadayadayada etc.

The absolute berks next to me then spent the whole film quoting lines to each other just before they were delivered and giggling at their own tepid and wrank and second hand "wit", like the mindless pricks they were.

Christ I hate people sometimes.

I have a rubbish attention span. My mind flies off in random directions every waking hour.

I find attending the cinema a challenging experience....but the rewards of committing focus for a couple of hours are a salve that I am grateful for having access to.

Afternoon screenings are, sadly, often sparsely populated affairs.

But give me peace.

Time to idle and relax.

Time to breathe.

I find that movies and boxsets get me to concentrate, lose myself.

Especially in an internet age (guilty right now).

I hated Python when I was at school because Certain Sorts would come in the next day and re-enact all the catch phrases. Neil G, Pete G, Nick B, Chris K, you ruined my adolescence, you BASTARDS.

Calling @monty uk for verification. ???

And yes, Sid, anyone making any sound at all in the cinema, especially with their mouth, should have their goolies cut off.

I know it has its fans, but I thought Mulholland Drive was the biggest pile of drivel I've ever had the misfortune to sit through.

I am very picky with cinema times.

Weekday mornings / afternoons and Sunday evenings.

Any other time and it’s 90% guaranteed you’ll get talkers and phone screeners etc.

I remember going on a Saturday afternoon to see Cowboys and Aliens.

This woman came in after the film had started. Loads of shopping bags on her. Found her partner. Chatting away and rummaging through her bags as she sat down.

The she continued to rummage through her bags. Rustling and bustling.

I stood it for about five minutes then went over and said “it sounds like you’re wrapping presents over here. Can you shut the f*** up please”

Her boyfriend kept staring back at me during the film until I went over and asked him what the problem was.

I will not have unnecessary noise in the cinema.

Since then, the girlfriend insists we go at less busy times 🤣

Completely counter to this thread I went to see "A Matter Of Life And Death" at Duke of Yorks last year on a Sunday lunchtime.

I'd seen the film a few times before on TV. First time on a big screen.

The screening was pretty much sold out.

As the auditorium emptied everyone had sincere smiles on their faces. The audience had experienced a collective joy.

It's a magical thing being in an quiet reflective crowd who are having a lovely time.

Powell & Pressburger moviea …. I finally got round to watching The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp at Xmas. Surreal, satirical, years ahead of its time, great.

My girlfriend (now wife) insisted that I watch Napoleon Dynamite and talked it up as being just hilarious. I hated it.

Just for you, US Seagull:

It is pretty awful!!!

I hardly ever go to the cinema now, I can’t stand the noise to the point I’ll be getting irritated about it before we’ve even got there 🤣. Talking, rustling of paper (some people seem to take bags of individually wrapped sweets just so they can open them really slowly), chomping, phones beeping……….🤬

I’m going to have to watch it again. intrigued to see if it’s as bad as I remember.
No time to die was pretty awful too, thinking about it. Drawn out and boring.
Yes. If it wasn't for the fact it was a Bond film (and I've always had a soft spot for Bond films no matter how bad as my Dad taking us to see the latest was always something I looked forward to as a child) I might have claimed it as well. Not helped by the fact it was FAR too long, which is IMO a failing in a lot of modern films, but that's probably a different subject. Anyway, unlike all the others I shall definitely not watch it again, especially if it's shown at Christmas on ITV. With the advert breaks it'll take up most of the day for a start.

Definitely another topic is favourite Bonds/Bond films. Despite my age it's Daniel Craig and Skyfall for me.

The only Bond films that I have really enjoyed since the first two were with Daniel Craig in Casino Royale and Skyfall. Casino Royale is the only one I’ve watched more than once with any interest second time around.
