One problem for Tau is that he is in the way of Khedra and now Richards, both of whom have a bigger potential and hence need game time. Personally I don't think he is quite good enough for the Premier League, but I suspect blocking those two also is a factor

Not sure how many times this needs spelling out to you and others but I’ll try again:

IT WAS A BUSINESS TRANSACTION WITH A COMMODITY WE THOUGHT WAS UNDERVALUED BY TB’s ALGORITHM NOTHING MORE OR LESS

Oh and in terms of treatment of the player we told him up front what the plan was whilst no doubt quadrupling his earnings overnight and giving him the chance to show case his talents in Europe. Wsshether it was in the Prem or any other tier 1 European league. He jumped at the chance like the LION he is and the only people that don’t get it are like you or 6,000,000 South Africans who think he is the reincarnation of Van Basten or similar when actually despite some fancy footwork he’s not quite that good.

Shout as much as you like, but TB's algorithm is clearly a piece of shit - and no substitute for experienced scouting humans. Though quite how many of them would be prepared to tell him the bad news while at the same time being paid by him is quite another matter

When the club first signed Percy (for very little) there were lots of comments about whether he would ever play for us- the work permit situation was well known about as there were posts upon posts going into how South Africa would need to win various games in the ACON, and WC Qualifiers etc. to get them high enough in the rankings to allow for a permit

There were also comments about whether he was ever bought to actually play for Brighton at all, but as a player to be brought low, developed in various European Leagues and sold on for a profit, rather than to be brought in to spend a year in Europe and then play in the Premier League once the work permit was sorted

I think the truth falls somewhere between. I think he was bought mainly as an investment, to be sold at a higher price after a couple of seasons in the Euro Leagues, but if he proved capable enough to be used at Brighton

I don't think its by any means a failure of the scouting team if he is sold for more than he cost but doesn't play for us in the Prem regularly.

Like it or not football is a business, and if Brighton make a couple of Million by selling him then thats all to the good- especially as there is a fair chance that that was the plan all along

So reading that article it looks to me more like Potter is saying that getting him PL game time isn't because he's not in his plans, but rather because they're playing it very safe bringing him back to fitness and don't want to compromise his recovery. Sounds very much like a "we've learned our less from Izquierdo" situation where they aren't going to risk him and will ease him in over time.

Very different to the spin I think some in this thread have been trying to put on it... (edit: that's not directed at the quoted post, for clarity)

Yes you could be right. For clarity on my behalf the wording is worrying purely from a viable bodies point of view - especially given the NM ban. I just thought he was further along, but perhaps that was just wishful thinking on my part?? I guess he looked well off the pace at Luton, so in that respect it's not a huge surprise but we're seriously struggling for numbers up top.

It's a bit of a worry. I hope Mwepu and Biss start banging them in...

Still, I'm fairly positive we'll be okay.

Manager will know better but he looked up for it against luton and that was a lovely weighted ball for PT to run onto whilst he meanwhile ran pretty fast into the box. Given where we are not regard new strikers he will have a big part to play IMO even if its lumps of 30 mins as a second half sub.

You've solved it, bloody well done - email Tony immediately and suggest he gets some scouts AND uses an algorithm - he and Dan simply won't have thought of that, or even combining the two. Genius.

The recruitment team aren't 'shit' because some players don't work out, no more than they are brilliant for uncovering great players at very little cost. Do you think the academy is also shit because 90%+ of those going through it will never get anywhere near the first team ? Win some, lose some....same as any form of recruitment.

Every single team in the PL, including, are using a mix of data and "scouting humans". Every team also makes good and bad signings.

Have it on good authority he will be departing.

Shame, seemed like a 'fun' player that could have been very popular. Not that he needs more fans looking at his South African following!

Perhaps his departure opens the door to an incoming. Delay in announcing it could well mean there is something in the works, but no info on that sadly. Personally think Connolly could have an exciting season, 7 + goals from him would be great to see.

Best of luck to the Lion of Judah!

Ok, I'll bite too. This is a new thread when we have a perfectly serviceable Percy Tau thread.

So either you are just trying to big yourself up on the basis that with the recent talk about Egypt you have a 50/50 chance of being right and looking in the know, or you actually are in the know and are risking someone's job by starting this thread and claiming bragging rights.

Either way it wasn't really needed. I actually opened the thread expecting something new and factual, but no.

Player was never given a proper chance here. Major failings by the club. They need to have a serious word with themselves, else they're doomed to do the exact same thing all over again. And again...

hahaha are you having your own private monthly competition for most stupid posts?

Haven't seen enough of him to say for certain whether he is good enough or not.

What we do know is that we are a different club now from the time we signed him.

We need players in our 25 man squad who can make a difference, not just to make up numbers.

I'd be very surprised if Tau was still here for this season.

With respect, given the limited playing time he's had with us, how can any club know whether he's "good enough" ?

Will be honest, I couldn't find the thread ( yes I used the search function, I certainly could have tried harder but it didn't appear straight away). The way I am aware of his departure does not risk anyone's job - it could be argued that I shouldn't have shared the info but I didn't feel that it would be especially damaging to do so. We've known of interest for a while, but from I've heard today he is now leaving. I don't know where he's going even, if I wanted to guess it would be to Al Ahly as reported, but I have no insight on that.

Sorry I've upset you - will be sure to keep to myself next time.

West Ham at home we had run out of ideas until Tau put through a lovely assist.

More importantly, when is the new striker going to be signed!?
