Why does it bother a bunch of white folks if people take the knee? What negative impact does it have on your lives?

People quite rightly have the choice to kneel or not and everyone should respect that. There’s only one type of person that gets annoyed at people protesting against racism....

Taking a knee is to demonstrate there is no room for racism, both in our lives and in football. Do you agree with that statement?

You appear to have forgotten to answer.

I’m of the opinion that a troll will want to go for the biggest target, so by having it constantly on TV and before every match is just making the whole ‘racism’ thing an even bigger target, so that is going to attract even more dullard trolls who will come out with racist abuse. They’ll do it because they know it can hurt and that it will get the biggest reaction.

It’s like the media and football have made it into the holy grail of abuse by shining a massive spotlight on it. I think if they stopped talking about every single day, it wouldn’t happen nowhere near as much. I don’t think ‘taking the knee’ is going to change any racist’s minds, it only makes it seem like a bigger prize.

I agree. I assume you were talking about QPR and Millwall not taking the knee anymore. They haven’t gone back, have they? I haven’t been keeping track.

Don’t protest or highlight racism incase it riles the racists? Wow. Okay.

I genuinely think that a lot of players are scared to stop. To paraphrase Zaha, they don’t know why their kneeling , but the backlash to stop by oneself, out of personal choice, would receive a horrendous backlash from those ‘holier than thou’

I think you could have a point there.

It’s not really a protest, a protest would be not playing at all and refusing to get paid and I still don’t think that would change a damn thing.

You say racists, but it’s probably more like 12 year olds seeing racism as the ‘big bad’ and wanting to get the biggest reaction and, in fact, not actually giving a shit about a player’s race.

It’s funny how it’s only about racism on black people though. It’s not like ‘Stand Up To Racism’ which, I assume, was against any form of racism. I’ve seen more racist abuse against white people on Twitter, yet the news don’t mention it everyday.

I'm not sure they have won. I don't think they particularly matter in the grand scheme of things at the moment, the last cry of the old order if you like. Zaha might not take the knee anymore but his teammates clearly haven't followed his lead and as I've stated, he might stand, but the captains have decided together to be a united front for the season across the league.

Over the past 12 months in football more kids than ever will have seen players taking a knee, regular FIFA updates about taking a stand against racism and messages on Sky Sports and BT Sports consistently saying that racism, in any form, is unacceptable. There have been no moments of racism in the stands for obvious reasons and being nasty in any form looks a lot less cool without the herd mentality.

For me, the internet trolls are a great example of things seeming like they're worse but perhaps just being more front and centre and that is a good thing. In 1997 people were throwing bananas onto the goldstone pitch at Darren Moore like it was a normal thing to do. Now people are going to court for sending racist messages to Ian Wright. That is a fundamental change that is only going to continue. A whole generation now understand, in very simple terms, that racism is not acceptable. I don't think that has been explicitly stated in English football until this point. It's progress, even if progress is never fast enough.

 Well said.

Just like you forgot to apologise for calling me a liar.

I don’t want race to be an issue in this country and I don’t want there to be racial troubles.

“Taking the knee” does nothing of those things you say it does. BLM is an organisation that rioted during the lockdown and is out for trouble. They are Marxist agitators.

Kneeling is just posturing for idiots. Some black players have seen this and are brave enough to say so. A few more probably would like to but no they’d have the witch hunters after them.

BLM have put race relations backwards, not forwards.

Wait, your way to tackle racism is not to mention if? At least Chamberlain left the phrase "don't mention the war" to comedy.

Another politician's answer. I appreciate that when players are taking the knee before games you are probably facing the other way with the sound down or, at the very least, either vomiting uncontrollably or screaming for a policeman, but every time it happens it is reinforced by the media that the message is "no room for racism". Nothing to do with BLM and certainly nothing to do with Marxism. No. Room. For. Racism.

What's wrong with that statement?

I think its a sensible way to tackle it. Plenty of modern world racism occurs because someone else isnt a racist, and people dont want to be like that someone else so they take the opposite view because they cant stand the people having the anti-racist view.

By talking less about race, racism and other polarising identity stuff, in the long run it should make it non-controversial and non-noticeable to have different skin colours. Not making it the hottest topic all the time should normalise not caring about race.

I would imagine most of us do that in our daily lives anyway. Unfortunately NSC is a bit obsessed by racism so every time you open it you will see a disproportionate number of threads directly on the subject or subverted by it. If players are free to take the knee as they see fit (which is the argument made) then the corollary is that they are also free to not take the knee (as they see fit and for whatever reason they wish)and fans are free to support either stance without being called racist. Happens in the real world, won’t happen on NSC.

Or, alternatively, casual racism becomes socially acceptable and, before you know it, Bernard Manning's successor is on prime time TV telling hilarious jokes about how the people next door smell funny.

Maybe but I dont think so, more likely to go in the other direction - most civilisations throughout history seems to have pretty much ignored race, it doesnt seem like a natural trait in humans to be racist, meaning that I think it would likely disappear if it stopped being a hot, divisive topic.

Just popped in to see how this thread is going and surprisingly (/sarcasm) we have:

Nazi worshipping, terror group supporting, all round racist Das Reich.

White replacement conspiracy theorist and linker to far right YT channels Beherenow.

Andy Ngo and Ian Miles Cheong are proper stand up journalists honest RossyG.

And even more surprisingly, they take issue with the BLM movement! Amazing. Just who could have imagined!

You forgot to mention posturing middle class sneerers which pretend to want to help black people, but who are really fighting a proxy battle against those frightful proles who voted for Brexit.
