In hindsight another really poor buy. £9m was it? Him, Ali J and Locadia for £40m. We'd be lucky to get £15m for the lot now.

It is shocking when you see the amount of money we're talking about, but in fairness I think its easy to say they were poor buys and that we spent £40million on players that we won't be able to recoup half of the money back on. But I don't think its any different to how it's awlays been. The money is higher obviously, but it's all relative.

It's always been the case that some transfers just dont work out. If this was 20 years ago, and we'd bought those three players for a combined £7million, we'd be sitting there saying thats a disgrace we'll be lucky to get £2million for all three. Nowadays, Premier League players cost a fortune to sign, but we get more money coming in. It's probably similar to most Prem clubs. Look at Newcastle with Joelinton, Palace with Benteke.

Don't get me wrong, it's still staggering that we have spent that much money on players that don't work out, but I think it probably says more about the Premier League and the state of football than it does specifically about us.

But arguably this is more about Potter, as he was regular under Hughton once established.

£15m Really?

I could be wrong, but I thought we were looking to offload Locadia to Cincinatti for £7m

Do you think Ali J & Bernardo would only raise £8m ?
I would expect to get more than that for Bernardo alone.

I agree that we have lost money on those three signings.
But I suspect we will have made it back and a good deal more on other signings and players we have developed.
Ben White alone wipes out the shortfall and then there is Connolly, Maupay, Trossard, Bissouma, Alzate, Molumby, Burn, Clark.
All of whom have probably increased in value.

Overall I would say the club are doing a pretty good job of managing recruitment
I suspect the overall value of the squad would show a relatively healthy return on investment.

Given he doesn’t seem to be valued in terms of starting, recouping the money would be great.

Do we need to recoup the money?
At the moment his position is one of our weaknesses.
I wouldn't be looking to strengthen a rival and weaken ourselves for the sake of a few quid back tbh.

We have already amortised away £7.2 million of the AliJ fee, £7 million of the Locadia fee, and £4.5 million of the Bernardo fee so to break even in future accounts we need to get about £21 million for the 3 players in total.

Ali J £10m - Ajax
Bernardo £11m - West Brom/Ham
Locadia £7m - Cincinnati

Total £28m

Simples.

Can speculate all they want. Don't think Bloom will sell to WBA for same reasons he wouldn't sell White to Leeds, not strengthening a rival.

The Turkish club linked might happen, but dont expect him to be in the PL for anyone except us.

You're of the view that selling Button to them hasn't strengthened them?

I would say that selling our second choice keeper (presumably because we feel Walton is better) doesn't weaken us to strengthen them.
Whereas selling one of out Left back options does.

We will be looking to spend more than we are receiving to improve our squad, by selling Bernardo.
Not the case when selling Button.

£7m for Locadia - really? We'd be lucky to get a packet of Hobnob's for him now.

That is probably true, but the flip side is he's only 26, scored goals in the Eredivisie, PL, Bundesliga and US league. Maybe he'd fetch a box of Border Luxury Biscuits at this point? :D

Now I know we only had him on loan, but he was our 2nd keeper for a season, say we had sold him to Norwich, would the same theory apply that Krul strengthened them?

How much would we get for Alzate, Dunk, March, Connolly, Molumby and Ben White ?

Why does Ben get his christian name and the others don't?

Steven, Lewis, Solomon, Aaron, Jayson, Benjamin.

Or

Steveo, Lu-lu, Solly, River, Jayce, Benny (on the loose).
