The new system has also made it effectively much much easier to emigrate here from India, Pakistan and a raft of African countries.

Skilled work also includes electricians, plumbers , plasterers etc... No exemption there.

The major change (as you state) is an attempt to force the "indigenous" unemployed working class into low paid work.

Incredible slight of hand by the government, they've used the immigration issue as an attack on the benefits system.

But I'm sure that's what people voted for.

:lolol:

Percy T gets to come and play for BHA under the new points system if I've understood it correctly!

I was not aware of that. So we've basically given away a 30 billion pound bargaining chip that was possibly the only significant benefit of a no-deal scenario?

I understand that she should have avoided giving an answer when questioned in a parliamentary committee, but was incapable of doing that. I don't think she was allowed to attend too many committees after that

I did post it at the time, but no leave supporter wanted to discuss it.

And, don't wish to appear pedantic but £39Billion

Excellent. Anyone have contact details for PPF so I can arrange for him to clean my house for minimum wage? I'll even provide a pinny and some gloves for when he tackles the toilet.

Immigration: No visas for low-skilled workers, government says

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-51550421

I bet there’s a lot of people in Blythe, Bolsover and Yorkshire etc sweating now. Having to fill the low-skilled worker shortage should have them voting Labour again in no time. Be careful what you wish for :lolol:

I am looking forward to when the people that voted to have less Islamic immigrants, work out that migrant workers are more likely to be Islamic than before. I predict that when we are out of transition, the estimation they do for immigration will no longer include overseas students, so it looks like we have less immigration, but that the reality will be fairly similar numbers, if there are jobs available. There is a chance that reducing immigration by making Britain such a shit place that no one wants to come here any more could work though.

The view is so simplistics it hurts. Are unemployed people in Cornwall (for example) going to be trained up to be become carers in nursing homes and then moved across the country (to Lincolnshire let's say) to fill a vacancy? At what cost? And how?

Never mind becoming carers, get them out filling up the millions of pot-holes everywhere. Fresh air, improving fitness levels, unending work and greatly appreciated by millions of us. Whats not to like.

Well, if catastrophobes like you keep spreading the message of doom and gloom, that might have the desired effect.

I'm sure that despite all evidence from every industry, government expert, trade expert and economist to the contrary, it will be absolutely fine if we all just believe more

Deepest, darkest Sussex
as move towards a ' Singapore-On-Thames' style of economy, fast moving and service driven.

With low taxation and bugger all public services? Not what that bus was promising as I recall.

Post- mortem is gonna drag on, so poor old honesty is going to take some time to be cremated/buried. Maybe its ashes can be sprinkled amongst all of us, as we are clearly culpable for this state of affairs. We had our chance but were too bloody lazy and apathetic to do anything about. Its too late now for people to gripe about the pathetic state of politics, when we had our chance to drain the swamp and make them accountable. What did we do? We let them be self-accountable. Christ Almighty, the biggest suicide note in history. We are the fools.

Your last point is a good one. Tightening immigration for skilled jobs ie making it harder to move to the U.K., will benefit the EU as we will retain more of the “best and brightest”.

So we all give up now then, is that the answer?
No point in investing in your business or trying to expand. No hope. Doomed. Presumably our football team will suffer from this malaise as well, as half its fan base emigrates to escape the impending catastrophe. None of us will enjoy anything like our current lifestyles, so pleasures such as football will have to go. More and more of us existing at poverty levels, previously unimaginable.
Shit, it really is hopeless. I am going to have to have a serious word with my staff and tell them that there is no point carrying on, despite us doing really well in the last 3 years, profits growing, bonuses paid. Time to give up, folks.

Misery indeed. Just two tweets on my feed today - thick gammon who have finally woken up. Too late though, they got what they voted for so I'm all out of sympathy for morons like these. I hope the first one loses a shedload because he can't sell his Spanish villa and I hope the second one goes bust. It's not like they cared about removing the rights of my kids. F*ck em.

Not at all. Protect yourself and loved ones as best you can and try and make the best of the oncoming shitstorm.

Personally, after years of patriotically keeping my assets in Britain and paying full tax on them, I've now taken my IFA's advice and moved a lot of my assets offshore, limited my tax liability, taken long term healthcare for my extended family, (and once out of the EU, there are ways of funding it offshore avoiding HIT and Income tax) and I'd suggest you may want to do something similar. You have to take advantage of the opportunities that Brexit offers, even if you feel it is a complete disaster for 95+% of the people of Britain

If your business is doing really well currently then that's a positive and hopefully it will continue to prosper despite the prospects for the wider economy

I agree.
'We're doomed, I tell you, we're doomed'.
I voted Remain, but I am fed up with all the moaning and doomster talk. I get the impression from some on here that they want the country to go down the pan, just so they can say, we told you so and all those who voted Leave are thick morons.
For f---k's sake, give it a rest and get on with your lives!

Have a day off. You voted Tory despite them being proven racists, liars beyond anything we've ever seen, and Brexiteers - and all because you couldn't stomach the idea of that nasty Jeremy Corbyn and his high tax for a few years. You clearly don't really give much of a toss about Brexit so I'm not going to be lectured by you telling me to get on with my life.

I'm perfectly capable of doing exactly that whilst calling out the lies, misery, hypocrisy and incompetence of this Brexit fuelled government at the same time thanks. If you don't like it, don't read the thread.

Interesting choice of words.

Who was too bloody lazy and apathetic? I demonstrated, signed petitions, lobbied my MP (useless task as she is so blinkered) and voted for another party.
Don't confuse being elected for actually representing the country. Our FPTP system is flawed.
