I think CH has a very good squad now. It's what he does with it.

Dropped three in form players for Saturday's game and reverted back to the isolated lone striker ways of Sami and we got totally stuffed. Brought those three players back on Tuesday, playing 4-4-2 and we controlled the game and came away with an excellent win.

Every manager will make mistakes though so can't be too harsh on him. However, what I would have liked to have heard was along the lines of "Ooops. Got that one wrong. Sorry about that. Let's move on" rather than "I don't regret anything". That doesn't really suggest that he has learned from the mistakes at Cardiff. We just pray that he has and that it won't happen again!

The lesson shouldn't be to never play 3 in midfield again. The lesson should be how to approach that formation more productively. We played a 451 with 3 CMs who have the same characteristics and therefore we lacked structure in the midfield zones. We also didn't push our wide players high enough to support Zamora. And we played Zamora... a classy player, yet one lacking in pace and mobility...

So he made a mistake, but it was in personnel rather than in formation. With the right players and the right instructions, a 3 man-midfield could be devastating.

Yeah some people did make real berks of themselves back then, and that’s not only funny but it’s good that those who were calling for patience have been vindicated. But equally I don’t really think it’s that positive to say “I told you so”. I think it would be better, and generous, to acknowledge that those who were mistaken back then, were only saying it because they care about the club. Let’s not be too hard on them, hope they’ve learnt a lesson about knee jerk reactions and all look forward to pushing for promotion this season.

Or it could be they are complete a*holes who just like to dig someone out - you know the sort, we have all stood/sat beside someone who week after week has a dig at a player, just because they can - even if they play brilliantly. Well the same here...

In all serious though, people who were saying 'get rid' etc need to remember this thread. Not everything comes gift wrapped on a plate. We were poor at the end of last season but Hughton kept us up which was all we needed to do. I remember constantly stating that on here myself - let him rebuild in the Summer. Even if we were mid-table this season he would still be doing a good job. Don't buy into the premier league impatience disease people
