Why does Lionel Messi go to a doctor in Udinese?

Very good fruit, vegetables and mineral water there. Unlike Spain. They also told him that tobacco and alcohol would not be beneficial. That was a worthwhile trip to the Docs.

It's funny how no drug cheat could possibly be English. *cough* Lindford Christie *cough*

Yet the rest of the world are cheating scumbags.

I think the point is more that anyone, British or otherwise, should be seen as innocent until proven guilty and to date there is no evidence or even suggestion from anyone that Farah has done anything wrong.

I know you have a bit of an obsession with this PED stuff, but surely even you can see that?

Having just put this programme on (half way through) it seems to be suggesting that Nike had some involvement in this (innocently as far as I know). My only question is that if the Albion got Nike kit last year, why couldn't we have had a few performance-enhancing drugs thrown in?

I heard they took the lot before the Wigan away game. Hence the goal we scored.

If the Jamaican athletics drug testing scene was as tight as it has been over here - and trust me that is not watertight - then things might have been a lot different over the past 8 years. There are less holes in the net now but there are still many of the top runners taking PED. It is not in there interests over there to catch the cheats................where else would Jamaica pull in all their bucks ?

The fallout from that Panorama programme should be interesting.

Read about Allan Wells how he was nothing then suddenly Olympic champion , makes you wonder

Don't you remember his wife Margot screaming at him. Make anyone run fast that.

Some of these Panorama documentaries tend to be one sided hatchet jobs. A reporter is sent out to "prove" something and only give half the story. The program was heavily skewed towards listening to the accusers rather than the accused.

No idea whether any of it is true but I'm suspicious its investigative journalism for its own sake.....

I think you'll find that had England won any of our two recent World Cup bids then the Blatter thread might have taken a different shape too

Mo Farah has done nothing to distance himself from PED use.

I don't think we can accuse him of anything at this early stage but he often pulls out of events at short notice which is quite strange but I wouldn't want to hang the guy on that alone

Not sure the accused wanted to appear on TV. Just give statements.

I've not accused Farah or for that matter Bolt, of any wrong doing.
I'm just pointing out that that these 2 athletes have put themselves into PED cultures, leaving themselves wide open to rumour.

British Cycling looked at continental cycling and said 'we're not having any of that'.
It broke away from the 'norm' and works in it's own bubble.

It certainly didn't follow and embrace former and cheat cheating practices.

Athletics drug testing is a joke.
Sure it's not as completely flawed like football, tennis and golf (lets not even bother crossing the pond) but nevertheless for a group of sports that has endemic and generational cheating it's not pushing to clean up.

BBC said:
None of the Nike Oregon Project (NOP) athletes has ever failed a drug test.
Rupp, who is one of America's most drug tested athletes, strenuously denied ever using testosterone or testosterone medication,
"I have not taken any banned substances and Alberto has never suggested that I take a banned substance."

Sounds a bit familiar, but I can't quite place it...

You're own national governing body has to take the initial moves in athletics. I have had to sign forms for my son who as a sprinter has competed at English schools level for possible drug testing but I must admit I have never heard of it actually being carried out. After 19 though when they become senior and start mixing and training in elite groups that is when the talk of certain 'supplements' starts occurring. The rewards to drop those 2/10ths in sprinting at the top level is almost worth the risk unless when you get caught the penalties are so severe that it ends you're career then the chemist coaches will try to stay ahead. The advancement in masking and knowing when to stop taking has become an art. Big differences between all these PED's so that makes it harder for the testers. Gay, Catlin and Powell all allowed back even though Caitlin has been caught more than once. That's crazy. Also you can be banned from competing in the Olympics but allowed to run at Worlds and Europeans as the Chambers case proved. Most top British athletes train abroad at some stage of the season with quite possibly a foreign coach so it's a minefield.
