Yes, I also live in Preston Park very close to the track. It's not that windy yet which is why trains are currently running fine. Because, let me repeat, the stopping of the trains is only happening when the FORECAST winds hit. If the FORECAST is wrong then so be it - the trains can get going again.

Fine. So stop giving me grief then. I was only reacting to OP who stated 'FCC have announced that they will be running NO service before 9AM tomorrow'.

Would i be right in saying that all rostered train crew will be going into work at their normal times tomorrow and that trains will be in the same place over night ?

If so, then a service would be rolled out pretty quickly once the all clear is given.

Yes, start times will be the same for most staff (not me though - off for the Watford game!!) so the first drivers will be in just after midnight and then rolling in from around 03.30 (assuming the roads are clear etc). As soon as the all clear is given drivers will be sent out on specific services but it will undoubtedly be sporadic for most of the day for all sorts of complicated reasons.

Tomorrow morning probably. Southern have various emergency timetables which can be implemented when needed.

Question for all the people moaning about the train situation tomorrow.
What price do you put on your/your families/other peoples lives??

Like yourselves I rely on the trains to get to and from work with tomorrow going to be a MASSIVE pain in the arse for me as I will need to leave H/H around 5:15 in the car now to get to work, pay for parking all day (London prices), congestion charge and fuel but would rather this than be on a train that hits a branch at 80mph....
And to top it all I MAY miss the football depending what the traffic is like getting of London tomorrow evening!

So stop winging and get on with your lives and be thankful for it!

Can you not take a last minute holiday? My company would be fine with it but they're a relatively small operation. Expecting people to come in on time tomorrow seems a bit mad. And once you're late your effectiveness is already subject to the law of diminishing returns.

Obviously if you work for emergency services / NHS / armed forces / transport sector then ignore the above. But if you go in to an office for a private enterprise you may be over estimating your worth.

Have heard that messages have been sent to only attempt travel if safe and the above.

At least now I have managed to be able to get hold of a couple of people at work and decided I can have a day off tomorrow (admittedly unpaid as I am a contractor )

With well over 100 trees falling on the rail network over night - the shutdown looks like it was the right thing to do.

Trains now running between London and Brighton and Eastbourne and Hastings. Trees still on lines at London Road, Polegate (2), Lancing, Angmering, Ore and Bosham.

Latest update is that over 200 trees have fallen on rail lines - worst affected are lines which run with overhead power lines.
