This sort of stuff always amuses me. You hate it so much yet always seek it out!

Ofcourse we all do.

It has nothing to do with social media, forums, twitter etc etc. bringing it to people's attention.

Everyone goes out looking for it.

It was a long and arduous journey I went on to bring you this article, it makes he Hobbit look like a Sunday afternoon stroll.

Wow. Even by their standards that is deeply unpleasant. We're all going to have opinions about the opening ceremony (personally if I could have written a list of everything to celebrate about this country, Danny Boyle's would have been it to a tee) but to conjure up a vile anti-NHS piece like that based on one tragic accident...unbelievable.

I didn't read the article. But the subject of the NHS comes up quite a lot.

Fact is, the NHS can suck quite badly, shit happens and maybe it's nobodies fault, but lets not all sing and dance in willful blindness, simply because we feel we should or we are bad Brits.

The whole NHS jizzfest in this country, and the constant attacks on people who don't buy into it, all reminds me of Communist China.

And having a good experience of the NHS is no cause to tell someone who has had a bad experience of it, that their experience does not count.

If you want to see the good in the NHS it is certainly there to see. And the bad, likewise.

We could always have the healthcare system of the states.....that's f***ing awful!!

The NHS has its faults, but it's there when you need it, and it can be annoying and slow....but id choose them then most countries healthcare system

I can't even comment on this... just waiting for Beach Hut et al to defend it.

The whole point of the focus on the NHS was to celebrate something which are/were unique to this country and which the vast majority of people support and regard highly. To ignore stories like this right wing racist diatribe, and just accept it because it is "freedom of speech" is a cop out. Bigotry and ignorance should always be challenged.

What constant attacks on people who don't buy into it? Gangs of lefties roaming the country attacking people found to have private medical cover? The monthly burning down of the Mail offices?

The majority of people in this country think the NHS is a great source of national pride (for all its imperfections). But if you don't agree that's fine. What people like this guy in the Mail are really complaining about is that they don't like the views of the guy who got to organise the opening ceremony. But his view hardly amounts to an attack on you, them or anyone else - it's just the expression of an opinion.

What sort of comment is that? You seem to imply that you have an equal chance of having bad experience as of having a good experience. And exactly what reminds of you of communist China?

The other thing that pisses me off about the article is the implications that a private health service would be better than what we have. Of course, no one dies from procedures carried out at private clinics or suffers irreversable complications!

Another example is the PIP issue. NHS agree to replace all implants that they provided if there are concerns on the part of the patient. Did the private sector all agree to do the same?

All around pranced self-indulgent nurses who had volunteered to take a few days off to be part of the ceremony.

Indeed. How very DARE those lavishly-paid workshy nurses have some time off to take part in this so-called "opening ceremony".

DISGUSTING.

You seem to be ( conveniently ) mixing up the experience of using the NHS and the principle of the NHS.

Surely nobody can argue with the principle of health care for all that is free at the point of delivery ? You know, ANYONE regardless of race, gender, sexuality, colour, creed, age or wealth can use it when they need. Even somebody as paranoid and anti-establishment as you can agree with that surely ?

By it's very nature and size there will differing experiences of the service received. That goes for any large organisation - you only need to see the numerous threads on here asking which TV / broadband / telephone provider is best.

We could also have the healthcare sytem of canada or france or germany or any number of countries which match up to the NHS, nobody in their right mind would want the US system which i think precludes them from being described as a civilised country, but although the NHS has been a fantastic servant to this country , its needs major overhaul, you cannot deny that some awful things go on , we need to look at other european countries methods , but certainly not go down the totally private route , we would also need a robust regulator, with teeth that was totally independent of government if any services are to be contracted out , the g4s debacle at the olympics proves what can happen with services that are auctioned off to the lowest bidder.

PS my family is receiveing life saving care from dedicated NHS doctors and nurses as we speak and are grateful for it.

Just on the whole 'being outraged' thing - who do people think has really offended Rebecca Adlington more, Frankie Boyle for his cruel jibe about her having the face of a dolphin, or the papers for going huge on the 'outrage' aspect, using it as an excuse to run the story over whole pages with big pictures and big headlines, and even a hack asking her what she thought about the mockery of her appearance. I wonder which made her feel worse. Lot of hypocrisy on the issue from the papers.
