He may feel that he needs a new challenge and bore of taing Scunthorpe up and down between the two leagues.
It is no [vizzini]inconceivable[/vizzini] to believe that a manager would be willing to trade divisions in the short term. I would imagine that we might be in a position to pay Adkins a greater wage to boot..?

My reasoning on this is:
Adkins is a tried and tested lower league manager but does he have the get up and go and contacts for us to push for the top flight.
A senior old head who has seen it done and worn the T shirt would have the contacts and experience gained over many years to guide us to the top and be a calming influence to stop a young up and coming coach with brash new ideas from going OTT.
The young coach as in either Adams or Stevens were both good defenders who could impart this knowledge to our most troubled area ie the defence. Tony Adams although a flop as a manager him self has studied coaching techniques at some of the top clubs in Europe and was the backbone behind Harrys Pompey success. Team him up with GG his boss at Arsenal, they jointly know a thing about defending and getting results.

Adkins has done at Scunny in the last 2 years exactly what we need to do in the next 2 years here so how is that no ambition.

The Mirror disn't say Pyet was going to be the next manager. It said he was in line for it, being interviewed tomorrow which is quite possibly true.
But a long way from being the next manager yet.
Why would Peter Taylor want to come as number 2? Great if he did and then we can take on a younger ambitious manager but I would have thought Taylor would want a manager's job, not a coach.

He was quoted recently as saying he would like to return to Brighton in a coaching capacity, which is where the whole "Taylor No 2" thing has come from.

i did wonder this but if as is being reported he is offered it then he must have already had interviews and discussion with Bloom so he must be considering leaving Scunny if a good offer came along. Obviously he can turn us down as Gannon did.........i not heard anything tho about us being given permission to talk to him by Scunny....surely they would have to if he under contract there.

His achievements at Arsenal were great, but surely he's been out of football management too long now (eight years since his last managerial post) to be considered or even want to be involved again.

Sorry, but could not disagree more!
As has been stated, Adkins knows this division, knows how to get out of it not just once but twice. Whilest doing so he didnt have the greatest squad, certainly not a great budget, and what is not the worlds largest fan base. He is exactly what we need imo!
People need to get over Curbishley, if Coppel turned us down, why on earth would Curbs come to a side struggling in league 1. If he came (not that he would) he is more a less stuck in this division for at least a season and a half, and if rumours are true that he wants only a premiership or higher championship job, why would he drop so far. Poyet is not experienced as a manager on his own, and probably knows far less about our league than Adkins, despite his time at Leeds. Southgate is another puzzler, he did nothing at boro except take them down, keeping that side in the Premiership was not that much of an achievement. I'd also think that Adkins are probably just as good as Southgates. The fact Southgate managed a premiership club, doesnt immediately lead to us receiving a handfull of premiership loanees, as he is hardly Wenger or Fergusons best pal! Adkins last year, actually had an Arsenal player on loan last season, and have a couple of West ham lads this year. Those contacts would be more than enough for me.
If we can, i say give him an offer we cant refuse!

Right, to all those who dont like the idea of Adkins maybe you need to have a serious think about who a realistic target is.
Of course nearly everybody wanted Coppell, but he has ruled himself out so who else has the skills Bloom is looking for and who actually come here.
Curbishley, not a chance...... Poyet, not had a managers job and maybe too much uncetainty about what he can actually do
Bloom has to think short to medium term at the moment and although Poyet or Solsjkear might be very good managers in time we need someone who has a proven track record in getting teams out of this division and Adkins fits that bill to a T.
I know everybody seeks loyality in football but it would appear that doesnt exist anymore and right now Bloom i'm sure will be looking at this as a purely business descision. At this moment in time we are a club that has a new stadium on the horizon which if we are paying Championship football can be a springboard to the future but ifwe are playing league one or lower could be te noose round this clubs neck. So if it means a manager coming in to take us to the next level before we plan bigger then so be it.
We need a manager that the players believe in as it would appear that we didnt have that in Slade so maybe appointing someone like Adkins, or Gannon again might be the best for the club in the next 2-3 years.
However, wouldnt Solsjkear be flair and think of the man utd fringe players we could get on loan

as said, he's quoted as saying he would like to come back here and perfers coaching. I have a feeling this might have been known to Bloom before sacking White and Booker. frankly, get in Taylor as assistant and the Manager is almost irrelevent as he'll sort out the defence and basics quickly. of course this might not be to the taste of some managers who'd feel underminded.
