I find your spirited defence of Transformers quite inspiring Uncle S.
For the record, I enjoyed it and would give it 8.0. My 12 year old came out of the cinema quite stunned, and solemnly declared it "the greatest film of all time", which was good enough for me.

The likes of Les and Meade prefer a film about a Croatian farmer and his relationship with his adopted son and his struggle to make his Goat rearing business a success against a backdrop of impending War all in subtitles and in black & white that 24 people have seen in the UK.

I also like Most Valuable Primate and the Police Academy series.

It just depends what you want from film doesn't it. If you want to be wowed by battling cars and their exploding, heartless chassiseseses, then go for it. If you want to have yourself questioned or forced to consider why something had an effect on you, then there are more well-constructed and testing fields to visit. It's been a great start to the year cinematically, with storylines and characters built and painted without the topless absurdity and mind-numbing grenades of summer blockbusters, but it's awards season so it won't last. Interesting stuff though.

:lolol:That post did make me laugh.

Let's be honest as Spielberg was producing you were always gonna love it. Tranformers were my favourite toy as a kid and I really wanted to like it. It wasn't utter turd, just not that good. I don't think I'm intellectually superior, I mean for fecks sake my favourite program on TV at the mo is Hollyoaks. It's just if something is for entertainment value I want it to be either well done or enjoyably trashy. Transformers was neither really.

And try for once to look for reasons to actually enjoy it rateh than be determined to come on tomorrow and slag it off. When I see a film I always look for the positives, ok , you may say I am easily pleased but even in a turd film I can find one or two decent scenes to enjoy.

Most films I like, some I love, some are masterpieces. There are hardly any films I hate or would not watch to the end and I have never left the cinema early in my life and considering I watched the Bodyguard at the cinema that is saying something.

I was dissapointed with Atonement have I mentioned that yet ?. Another example of critics with period piece pretentious arse syndrome.

I'm not too much into introspectivwe navel-gazing after watching a film to be honest, I just like to be entertained. A thought-provoking film is one thing, but if I find myself examining my feelings or challenging my innermost beliefs after sitting through The English Patient, then I'll probably go and take a cold shower and put my Trapdoor DVD on.

Deja-Vu

Time-travel hocum with Denzel Washington investigating the terrorist bombing of a ferry in New Orleans. On working with the FBI, he discovers they have developed a machine that bends time and allows you to see a constant rolling "film" of events that took place 102 hours (or four and a bit days) ago. An interesting concept that leads to some mind-bending scenarios (particularly a car chase scene that takes place on the same road, but has him pursuing a car that was driving that part of the road four days ago). However, the film is let down by a disappointingy contrived ending that actually breaks its own rules.
Entertaining enough, but doesn't stand up to close scrutiny.

6.8.

James McAvoy was decent in it, but it was just really bad - I know Im not suposed to like this sort of thing as im a man - but ive like other stuff along these lines.

It must be a girl thing as BAG loved it. The ONLY time I was impressed was the cinematography on the Normandy Beach scenes, that was very good.

Unc, I always go into films hoping to enjoy them. The unenjoying part is involuntary, I can't control how I feel about a film. I do however at least try to articulate why. You have to remember US people judge things by different standards, I may love film as much as you but I look for different things.

Oh and by the way the only thing I hate more than a boring film is a cheesy film.

People do get very angry on here where films are concerned.
On the judging films before they end point i gave up King Kong as i was incredibly bored after 2 hours. While i can't give a complete review of it i will still tell people it's shit of they want my opinion, any film that fails to generate any interest in me after two whole hours has has to have some problems

Bit like the Transformers thing. If it hasn't been great with only 30 mins to go then there's surely something wrong with it.

I thought Transformers was good solid entertainment. Thankfully I expected robots in disguise and thats what I got, thankfully I wasnt expecting plot, or exposition or characterisation - leave that to films like No Country for Old Men etc, I was expecting guns, robots and action. The fact that it had that bird in it was also a bonus!

I sat there and enjoyed it. Ok it was probably about 20 mins too long but for an entertainment spectacle I thought it was great.

Unlike Cloverfield which is overrated pap in my opinion although I did like the ending! 6.5
