Not sure about his passing ability or pace but if we want defensive brilliance, goals from set-pieces, strength and size, he looks a great option. I think he'd be an amazing partner for Boscagli.

with
Igor (probably out)
Webster (possibly out - presumably wants more game time, West Ham were sniffing around)

and options if desperate
Veltman, Baleba

and watch out for Freddie Simmonds.

Didn’t Webster recently say how much he loved it here and enjoyed being unusual in staying long term at the same club? Given his end of season form, barring injuries he is going to take some shifting imo.

Fully fit I’d go as far as to say he’s our best centre half. If he hadn’t had so many injuries he may well have been in with a shout of an England cap.

He’s shown he has the occasional lapse in concentration but he’s two-footed, a threat in both boxes, composed, a good tackler with good positional awareness.

I’d be gutted if he left and hope he starts the season with van Hecke. Just look at the points return with the two of them at the back vs without, during the second half of the season.

He has two years left on his deal. He may sign a new one, but most likely he'll want to see what his options are before doing so.

The club are likely working under the assumption that JPVH will go. Maybe it will be this summer, more likely next. They are getting the replacement in the house and up to speed before that happens.
