The government doesnt need to take money from anyone to pay for so called "borrowing". Simpler - dont "Borrow" at all. Preferably get rid of bonds altogether and failing that, reduce interest rates to zero

A slightly confusing graph

Majority of people see SKS as pro immigration

If YouGov is a responsible polling organisation, they must have asked a lot more than that. We don't know whether the opponents of immigration are opposed to even a single immigrant, or opposed to a million a year, or something in between. Conversely, of course, we don't know whether the supporters of immigration are in favour of come one come all, or controlled immigration, or any of a thousand other nuances.

Anti-immigration people think he’s pro, while pro-immigration people think he’s anti. There’ll be some confirmation bias at play here but it essentially shows that he’s failing to please everybody all of the time, which probably means he’s doing a reasonable job of sticking to the middle ground.

Good news from the energy sector

"Ofgem on Friday set the price cap for July to September at a level that would mean a typical household pays £1,720 per year, down from £1,849 at present, following a fall in wholesale gas price"

I think he is headed in the right direction.

The small boats get all the headlines, but they aren't the main issue, which is how legal migration is controlled. We absolutely should be setting standards and expectations upon people who want to live and work here - namely that they speak English, that they obey our laws, respect our cultural norms, that they integrate with the native population, and leave any illiberal views and customs that their homeland may have back in their homeland.

You'll get the first one, mostly the second but not much of the rest, in the main. I think it's naive to expect the rest and history shows it, imo.

If I came to power tomorrow the first thing I'd be doing is forcing this cap down to a much more reasonable level. Like £500 or something.

If the energy companies don't like it then they just get nationalised.

Think this is being talked about because the government is thinking of letting convicted sex offenders out after just a third of their sentence. Assume it would only be given when they are let out.
Thank you and HWT for your replies. I'm a little more comfortable now I know that the process can be reversed when the inevitable next miscarriage of justice pops along.

And this chemical carstration is 100% reliable? Once its done, a rapist will never have the capability to rape again? Society will be 100% safe from convicted sex offenders who have been chemically carstrated?

In that case you need to be selective about where you allow immigration from if people from some places are unwilling to meet our standards and expectations.

Some have said in the past that although they can't actually rape a child or woman it doesn't change their controlling or aggressive behaviour so not sure everyone is 100% safe. Need more details.

that's one way to go. now you'll raise taxes or borrowing to cover the shortfall between production and retail prices?

The energy companies will just have to swallow the hit to their massive profits

they have large profits from huge volume but low margins. cutting the prices 2/3rds would have to be covered somehow and as you've just nationalised, it's tax payers to foot the bill.

That's going to piss on Farage's escargot

These figures belong to the Tories, and they are still massive. Let's see how things are when we get time to see how labour have performed. I'm not convinced this will halt Farage at all.

Did all your 'liberal' imperialists know the language of the country they went to lord over? Do you also want to make it a condition that anyone that emigrates from the UK knows the language of their arrival country (should be fine with the outstanding approach to languages within our education system)? Why would an illiberal like you insist that only liberal foreigners can come here? Surely it would upset the carefully honed balance the natives have constructed for themselves.

Excellent. I'll have a large bet with you that Farage will not be the next PM. You'll obviously want to bet because things are irreversible. Name your price.

As a majority govt, almost impossible for a party significantly more right wing (plus the love of fascist Putin, Reform antisimites etc) than anything before to win 326 seats in England and Wales. I personally know Tories and ex Tories who’d never vote for Farage/Reform.

As a coalition, LibDem, Greens, SNP would never do business with them.
