The Prison Service has cocked up here. They’re the ones who will be under pressure and feeling ‘embarrassed'. I’m not an apologist for this government - far from it - but I can’t see how Sunak's anything to do with it.
Not denying the Prison Service has cocked up here but there have been severe cuts since the Tories got in which is a bit strange from the Law and Order party they like to portray themselves as. He should not have been in a Cat B prison or allowed to work in the Kitchen as he is on Remand. Cuts to budgets have some cause for this but not all. The staffing levels are way down on what they should be and moral pretty low. The surprise to me is that there haven’t been more escapes. So yes the Government does have some responsibility.

I don’t want anyone to panic but I’ve just seen someone fitting his description wearing the new Europa shirt (no Nike tick) being chased by a security guard outside Kingsway Co Op.
Saying that, some lad was questioned in Banbury, because someone reported him for looking like him.

Surely he’d have got himself to a place of safety within a few hours?

Not as stupid as the government losing him in the first place though is it?
Again, we can blame the government for a lot of things but enabling a prisoner to escape under a truck ain't one of them. Unless (like a lot of people) you use the word government as a blanket word for all people in authority.

This government has undermined every single public service in this country over the past decade. From what I hear in the case of the prison service they got rid of all the experienced prison officers and replaced them with new, cheaper staff who didn't know how to do the job (not the staff's fault, they're new, they need some experienced people around to learn from). In other services a different method might be used but will be a variety of general underfunding, poor pay, over-regulation and a bureaucratic load which makes the job impossible. This certainly applies to the health service but probably police force, schools, public transport. Do you think all these services going to shit in the past 10 years is a coincidence? The government blame the staff to try to avoid the blame themselves, the staff get pissed off and leave, and the service gets worse and more understaffed.

If there's people odd enough to report other fans to stewards for having the audacity to smuggle in to the ground their own sandwiches then I think this will be a landslide victory for the curtain twitchers.

He should ring a mate.
"Daniel here. know I`m gonna get caught, I`m coming round yours you can ring police and tell them. they`ll give you £20k. Give my mum £10k and you can keep the rest"

It's not even the first escape from Wandsworth recently.

Definitely bubbled up by a friend or family member who fancied a quick windfall.

My argument is that we have a culture of deflecting blame which actually lets people off the hook. It's very much in the interests of the Prison Service to blame a high-profile cock-up on 'the government' or Sunak or anyone else that isn't themselves. The problem with blaming the government for everything is that people zone out and fail to blame the government for anything, including things they really are directly to blame for. It's very easy to blame the next bit of the chain along from us.

The prison officer assigned to guard duty that morning will blame his line manager who will blame his department who will blame the prison management who will blame the Prison Service who will blame the Home Office who will blame the Exchequer who will blame the Cabinet who will blame the PM.... We may as well blame the electorate for voting in this government...
