DId anyone else spot this dogturd of lazy journalism?:

Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards believes Brighton could sell Moises Ciacedo to fund a move for Mykola Matviyenko.

The Seagulls are reportedly stepping up their interest in the £20m-rated Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine centre-back.

Edwards told the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast: "Matviyenko played for De Zerbi at Shakhtar so he knows him well.

"Shakhtar have proven with Mudryk going to Chelsea that they are very tough negotiators in sticking to their asking price. I think Brighton have offered £20m and they are holding out for a little bit more.

"That link between De Zerbi and the player probably helps Brighton in trying to get him. We had been led to believe that Moises Caicedo was up for sale this month, so it makes you wonder if Brighton are going to sell him to fund these sorts of deals.

"If De Zerbi wants Matviyenko and they have that money to go and spend, then why not?"

I guess the £150 million+ we've already trousered in selling players recently has passed lazy Luke by?
I’ve had the misfortune to hear Luke Edwards on Radio 5 Live a few times and he is an absolute f***ing idiot. Can’t believe the BBC give him air time. Rory Smith he is not.

Borne out by the fact that the club/Bloom DO NOT NEED TO SELL TO FUND just now.

Edwards is making things up.

Every player will have a value established by Tony Bloom's data. Just because TB can afford to pay more doesn't mean he will do so. If someone else wants to pay 50% more, they will get the player.
That's why TB is so successful. He understands property values, whether that is a player, a football club or a housing development.

If I wanted to buy a property that is valued locally at £200,000, I wouldn't pay £300,000 even if I could afford it.

As my old CEO at lender used to say, “yes I appreciate it’s a high spec converted 7 bedroom property but people who can afford 7 bedroom high spec properties don’t want to live in Peckham”

Probably not true anymore, especially in Peckham Rye? If you can’t afford Dulwich……

Can see de zerbi start to become pissed off if he ends up joining someone willing to pay the fee.
I was about to post the same. If the one player we assume he really wants goes to another PL team whilst we play hard ball on price, it could well change RDZ’s thoughts on the project he is involved in. Or maybe not, who knows but if he does want him I hope we can swing it. We are not going to get Colwill, who has adapted to the tactics so well, so not getting this guy, who can also play the RDZ way could well put doubts in RDZ’s mind imo. This position is important in the tactics isn’t it?

Presumably RDZ knew the deal when he joined. And ultimately the club will be careful about signing a ‘coaches’ player, especially for a record fee. What happens if RDZ leaves in the summer for whatever reason… sure if the deal will be done it will, but only if it’s right for everyone

The problem is, Shakhtar have just got some idiotic EPL side to overpay by about £20m for Mudryk. That sets an expectation.

It’s my belief that they are trying to make us over pay by the same percentage. I’m convinced that BHA, RDZ, Matvienko and his agent all want the deal to go through but Shakhtar want more than he is worth. Creating an EPL bidding war is their aim and it seems, they achieved it.

Over paying for a player is something we just don’t do. I’m sure RDZ will understand. We’re just not that sort of club.

But also be mindful of the situation there and they have a record of selling players for decent money - that it’s unlikely they will be selling anyone of any value anytime soon so of course they want to maximise value.

Property isn’t a good analogy for football. Signing this player could be the difference between finishing 9th or 7th and having a European run. Say we ‘overpay’ by 4m and that did happen we would recoup it several times over.
West Ham ‘ only ‘ made £23m last season from their European run.

Just get this done, back the manager and do so from a position of strength as per our league position. If we were talking RDZ asking for a £50m player then fine say no but it seems we are only a few million apart on valuation. If we were willing to pay £20m for Webster four years ago, presumably at Potters request, I am struggling to understand the reluctance to pay as litter bit more for a player with far greater pedigree.

We all love Bloom but no one can be above being questioned for their decisions. The manager said publicly he wanted to strengthen the squad this window and so far we have lost one of our best players with no meaningful additions, that’s not backing the manager…yet.

He's a Telegraph journalist - explains a lot - but where's the insidious bullshit that it's the fault of some poor unfortunates?

Shakhtar Donetsk have rejected Brighton’slatest offer for centre-back Mykola Matviyenko.

The bid was understood to have been £16m plus bonuses.

Brighton remain interested in the player and are considering another bid.

Matviyenko is an important target for head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who managed him before at Shakhtar.

We paid over the odds for Locadia....about £15 million over the odds to be fair.
