My brother and family flew in this morning, quickest he has ever got through Gatwick and he is hoping border force go on strike next time he flies in.
And yes he was fully checked as usual and not just waved through to clear queues
Yeah, dunno on numbers of travellers yet - some people may not have travelled

But early reports suggest the time at passport control was up to four times quicker with the army in place

Now that means they are not doing it properly, or in fact boarder patrol are slow and are over paid 😂

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Would a general strike work ? Of course not, all that would happen is loads of people lose some wages and everyone's life is made a misery. Any government of any persuasion cannot not allow itself to lose, after all, what would happen next year, and the year after..... a bit like slowly blackmailing the country bankrupt.

Catering manager Simon Charlton, 44, returned from Canada after a winter break and said it was a “no-brainer” to get through.

Simon, from Brighton, told The Sun: “I expected total chaos at Heathrow. I was awake thinking how bad the queues and delays would be, but it went really smoothly.

“It was quicker than usual but still with thorough controls. It’s better than ever. Maybe that’s the future.”

Considering the carnage seen in the summer, it does raise questions.
Perhaps we should just get the military to run the Country - they’re practically doing it anyway - and apparently a lot more efficiently 😂

have you worked out how to retain frontline nhs staff yet?

Me? It’s not really up to me

However Labour in wales, Tories in England and SNP can’t find a way to stop the strikes and the Unions refuse to talk about working conditions

So I guess it’s a dead end all round whilst people die due to all four groups

But if there’s no money above the recommended pay rises, there’s no money

How much of that will the cover 19 percent and for how long.

If it’s just a case of doing that why do the 2 other major parties agree there isn’t the money?

Shall we just give in and give everyone one a pay rise and what they are asking with out looking at ways of cutting costs?

says giving nurses more pay means fewer treatments, fewer nurses, less cash for NHS'.

Maybe they could just follow labours example and be honest about it
Trouble is the truth hurts. Good on him. This is what will happen across all strikes whoever it maybe. Just means more contract workers on crap wages and terms to replace them.

then, we'll just have to muddle thru without nurses, i spose

So dramatic.

What I imagine will happen is an agreement will be reached around 8 percent (for all strikers) after they realise the demands are unrealistic and public support is falling, or some will break ranks and go back to work, as we saw with other industries a few years ago

Most would agree they deserve a pay rise, I think they should be looking at fixed amounts per year rather than a percent

That will also call the bluff on it being about the lowest paid

already happened in some disputes. settlement as a bonus (less cost long term and pension contribution), giving higher % for lower paid grades.
