Police is a job for those who love violence and power. There are exceptions but lots of them are nuts and even more are scumbags.

Negligence and the deaths of innocents at the hands psychopaths (scumbags) being employed in public service is not new………

Broadly speaking it’s not looking like the public service that Allitt and Shipman were employed in has changed much in recent years either.

I’m sure the damp mattress brigade can come up with the answers to this riddle.

What I find frightening is that ‘colleagues’ know these men are doing it, but won’t grass them up or higher ups are not listening.

In the meantime, the Police Commissioner in North Yorkshire has kindly advised women to learn their rights so they can’t be ‘falsely arrested!
Great, so now we mustn’t get drunk, wear tempting clothes, walk alone, check cab drivers, but also do a course in the law now.

How about men telling men to treat women with respect?

Totally agree Thunderbolt.

But in the meantime I'm telling my 30 year old, London dwelling daughter to carry mace or a taser because all the tea in China and all the policy documents, new laws, directives, fine words and hashtags will not rid society of the murderous deviant, sadly.

So a man his colleagues nicknamed BEFORE this as the Rapist - suggests an institutional issue.

The response is appalling to any of us with daughters:
- Be more streetwise
- Run if someone tries to arrest you
- Flag down a bus

This is the society that is created when leaders lie for their own gain and anyone feels they can do what they like.

Meanwhile the Queen is spending millions of her “own” money to defend Prince Nonce.

It’s almost enough to turn me into a socialist.

If you followed socialist ideology, would you support the rehabilitation of people like Couzens - rather than advocating stronger punishments for these crimes?

This is sinister.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-58805186

A woman who was pictured being arrested at the Sarah Everard vigil has said "about 50" police officers have since contacted her via a dating app, leaving her "terrified".

Patsy Stevenson, 28, said the officers approached her on Tinder after she was handcuffed at the vigil on 13 March.

She said they knew she was "fearful of police" and had done it "for a reason".

She was handcuffed and held down by two officers, and was also issued with a £200 fine.

She has since launched legal action against the Met Police over the arrest.

Don't forget the Met Police knew, at the time of the vigil, that Couzens used his warrant card to kidnap Sarah.

To follow on, another Met policeman, from the same unit as Couzens, was arrested on Saturday, and charged with rape.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58784201

A Metropolitan Police officer accused of raping a woman he met on Tinder has been remanded in custody.

PC David Carrick, 46, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, appeared before St Albans Magistrates' Court on Monday morning.

Scotland Yard said Mr Carrick was based within the Met's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.

This is the same unit where the murderer of Sarah Everard, Wayne Couzens, had worked.

If that is true the chief constable needs suspending while the whole Met is investigated.

Another force, although that didn't work well when South Yorks police were investigated over Hillsborough.

I forgot this one.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...over-couzens-whatsapp-group-are-still-on-duty

Two Metropolitan police officers allegedly involved in a chat group that included Wayne Couzens that swapped alleged misogynistic and racist messages have been left on duty after being placed under criminal investigation, the Guardian has learned.

The two Met officers are said to have been part of a WhatsApp group involving constables from three forces that is under investigation after Couzens’s phone was seized following his arrest for the murder of Sarah Everard in March.

If you followed socialist ideology, would you support the rehabilitation of people like Couzens - rather than advocating stronger punishments for these crimes?

Interesting question but it assumes too much. There is no single 'socialist' position on rehabilitation for all offenders as far as I am aware. Everyone knows that some offenders cannot be rehabilitated, and that some do not deserve to be (and should be made an example, by life imprisonment, for the greater good). It is quite possible to define one's self as a socialist and be in favour of even capital punishment. Equally, I am a member of the Labour party but would not identify myself as a 'socialist' given that the labour party (and perhaps socialism too, albeit that is arguable) is a 'Broad Church'. Labour even has a strong Christian wing, yet I am a die-hard (and for ever it would seem) athiest. A broad church indeed.

For what it is worth (nothing) my view is that scope for rehabilitation and success of any in-prison measures taken to facilitate rehabilitation (and presently there is precious little in our 'bang them up and leave them to rot, er, then let them out' society) is something to be judged by medical and ancillary people, under the rule of law.

So regardless of my 'socialism' I am not advocating anything in particular regarding strength of punishments. My personal view is that someone prepared to abduct, rape and murder a woman with little or no chance of getting away with it (I suspect one of his whatsapp wanker pals shopped him, but that's bye the bye) is not going to think twice if the level of punishment was increased. Men previously raped and killed when we still had the death penalty and used it. It is not a deterrent to anyone other than law abiding citizens, or the criminally insane and debased who happen also to have sound judgement, reasoning and control, which is paradoxical, and this kills the argument for capital punishment stone dead.

Unless you simply wish that society operated a policy of maximum vengance. I have always said that if anyone harms my nearest and dearest I would want them dead (and would be inclined to hunt them down and do the deed myself) but I expect society (the organization that is supposed to promote the greater good and help train us to not just grab at what we want, whether it is money, sex or vengance) to stop me.

We employed a lot of ex-police in our function over the years (very nice earner for, in particular, those that could leave the force after doing a full term and still have plenty of working life left). The more mature guys (it was almost exclusively guys, but the one female I recall was of a similar mindset) were almost all evidently and outwardly racist and misogynistic - unacceptable jokes, comments etc were very common.

I stand to be corrected but I believe the woman in question was on the TV the following morning all sweet and innocent and then video of her behaviour at the vigil emerged showing her far from that. Assuming her allegations are true, surely they can be easily checked and action taken against the officers concerned.

The police conduct at the vigil has been ruled unlawful.

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Democracy and the Constitution has been looking in to both cases.

The group says that both the Metropolitan Police and Avon and Somerset Police wrongly applied "ambiguous" lockdown laws and "failed to conduct a proper assessment of the proportionality of their actions".

I appreciate what you are saying about the Police but you haven't commented on her behaviour?

That evening should have been just about celebrating the life of Sarah Everard and not used for activists.

I can't comment on her behaviour because I haven't read anything about it. I know she is taking legal action against the police, and I know the police wrongly used Covid regulations to break up a vigil. Those I have backed up with links to news reports.
