I think we need to start displaying a bit more of our stiff upper lip, stop gushing with emotion, stop changing our FB pictures to the French flag,

Pay dignified respect to those who lost their lives (one minute silence was perfect), straighten our backs, stick our chins out and bloody well get on with our lives.

But that is why I changed mine temporarily to the French Flag. Out of respect to those lives lost (yes I know not all will be French).

As stated, it's only what I think.

What I got from the article was how ISIS are a very different organisation to what many people consider (especially in reference to how they are set up). They need confrontation, because without it their ideology starts to fail and given that this is the main driver of ISIS it needs to be undermined.

A US or Western troop on the ground is the best recruiting tool they can get, however, starve them of a crusader army and suddenly things start to look more difficult. Not so easy to justify the existence without it and war-fatigue will set in. Recent reports have indicated that they have had a number of deserters, there have also been locations which initially welcomed their liberation and quickly fell foul of it.

I saw one report where men were interviewed in a border town in Jordan. The men wanted ISIS to take over, one proclaimed this with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth (I'm presuming he'll be giving that up then - ISIS has a nasty way of kicking the habit for those found smoking). Their main grievances were a lack of jobs and various other annoyances. In short they saw ISIS as a way of escaping day-to-day issues. ISIS would therefore wipe the slate clean for them. Horrifically short term thinking.

Muslims killing Muslims isn't a good rallying call for ISIS, the thinking behind any strategy needs to be denying them western targets on the ground. Empires and Caliphates are easier to beat from the inside (apply stress and watch them implode).

I am not being critical, believe me, but there is so much hearsay in this. A deserter here, a moan there and all we need to do is to stay out and watch it implode. Would you want to be the one who would lead the revolt from within? Whilst I fully agree that one would like to think this is the eventual outcome, if we avoid boots on the ground, it really is stretching hope a bit far.

There is a huge huge difference between picking up and running with something your parents did and brain washing. You're being absurd and I think you know it. My father was a Albion regular, and a regular gig goer. I do both; have I been brain washed?

There is also a huge huge difference between inheriting a love of the Albion and how youngsters in traditional muslim countries are brought up to think and believe. You have taken a convenient example, and whilst I do see your point, the post was talking about a situation where the children really do not have a choice.

Do you really believe that most children in Islamic countries just 'pick up and run with' their parents religion !? The children are brought up in households then sent to schools where they are repeatedly told their is only one truth and any variance from this view will lead to eternal damnation and punishment. In addition apostasy is a capital offence according to their book. The cycle continues through the generations ad nauseam. The very definition of brainwashing 'to make someone believe something by repeatedly telling them that it is true'.

Equating this monstrous ongoing poisoning of young minds with religious nonsense and stifling their critical faculties with supporting Dad's football team is absurd. As an aside was your father a Socialist?

I notice you have yet to give any good reason why we should tolerate religious intolerance ... 3rd time lucky?

According to the latest news on the radio, France retalliated with 10 airstrikes on IS targets but the IS have come back with a video saying they will carry out similar bombings on other countries who authorise or carry out airstrikes. Is this bluff? Could the nations combined carry out sufficient to blunt IS strength and call their bluff?

Hollande making a very impassioned speech to parliament

an interesting point he is making,he is asking for his politicians to write into law that French citizenship can be removed from undesirables(if they are dual citizens) and banished from France

Doesn't make any difference, they are planning to attack everyone anyway. Their threats mean absolutely nothing.

Can they wipe out IS or is its sympathisers too widely scattered around the world?

That's the big question BG.

We can take out hundreds/thousands of IS within Iraq and Syria via airstrikes, but what about the terrorists operating within our own countries and/or those crossing the borders in disguise with the intention of causing harm?

I don't think there's a real answer in all honesty.

With no borders it would be very difficult to keep them out of France as there are many unchecked roads into France even if banished. Easier for us to implement it.

But the links states that France has been funding terrorists, not Russia?
I wasn't referring to your link, but the website in general. As stated, it is a propaganda site, so you're best just ignoring the lot. Although you will get links to real journalism, it will all be cherry picked and presented from Russia's point of view.

The French president is now announcingmore funding for police and defence.

He said security and armed forces must have more means at their disposal.

No job cuts in the military will occur until at least 2019*and*5,000 new police jobs will be created*within two years.

Security measures will increase spending, he said, but*security is more important than EU spending rules.
