Did 10 miles at Henfield Leisure Centre (part of a team marathon fun) for the 777 fundraisers on Friday night. Fantastic event - 777 Fundraising worthy cause and met some really lovely people.

I did a "bleep test" yesteday which was different - a short, sharp, shock and got to level 10.2. Had a running rest day today, bought some new clip on pedals for my mountain bike and did a bike ride over the back of Lancing College this afternoon. I didn't manage to clip out in time though when I hit a ridge and am now nursing a brusied knee cap and ego at the moment. A couple of pints of cider and an all day breakfast at The Red Lion (paid for by my wife!) made up for it. Think I will take it easy for the next two weeks now and have booked a sports massage for the Friday before the Brighton marathon day. I also bought a BHA "travel shirt" to run in reduced from 29.99 to 13.99.

Hey guys a bit of advice required. I have just taken up running so am not the best! I just did a short 2.5K and I don't feel tired during it, the only thing that I struggle with is a stitch. Is this just due to my body not being used to running or something I recently ate etc?

I would say it's your body just getting used to it. I used to suffer with stich but I now run further albeit slower and don't seem to get it now

Ok thanks, I'll keep going and work past it.

Make sure you are properly hydratred before running and dont eat too near the run.

Change your breathing briefly when the stitch kicks in. Deep breaths rather than the more normal shallow ones when running.

As you get fitter, incidences of stitch should reduce.

Cross trainers

Hey All

i'm struggling to keep up my training due to the hours I work when deployed, i can't get out to run on the upper deck as due to the time I finish work for the day its dark outside, Our 'Gym' only has a Crosstrainer, bike and rowing machine in, Does anyone regularly use a crosstrainer for their own training or do intervals on one?

Today was supposed to be my last big run before the Brighton marathon, only managed 15 miles when I was aiming to go 2 miles past my previous run of 18 miles last Wednesday evening.

Feel a bit downhearted as psychologically I felt getting to twenty would give me a huge boost, however I have now completed two runs of fifteen and one of eighteen. I'm very tempted to have one last attempt of 20 on Friday but is that too close to the event? Any thoughts from experienced runners out there?

DONT DO IT BIG NUTS!!

All you will do by doing a 20 on Friday is detract from your potential performance on race day, particularly having done a 15 today! Listen to your body-by not being able to do more than 15 it was telling you something!

Concentrate on a few shorter (5-8) mile runs between now and race with max of 12 at SLOW pace this weekend. Carb up for 3 days before race and you will be on the start line having given it your best shot!

chimneys is right - 15 today and 20 on Friday is much too much. You won't be any better on Friday than you were today. And, again, like Chimneys says - throw in a few shorter, quicker runs and concentrate on eating & sleeping well before next weekend

That said, i'm going to try to sneak in 20 tomorrow as a last ditch effort. If I feel rubbish during that, I won't be running the marathon this year as my training since early March has just gone all wrong.

I'd give it a miss. I don't think there's much to gain by running 2 miles?

Has everyone else got their marathon pack through? Still no sign of mine yet.....

Is yours a Charity place? I had my email lastweek saying that all Charity & ballott runners have to pick up the number at the expo.

Brighton Marathon 2012 – FAQs

When will I receive my race pack for the 2012 race?
Race Packs, for those who purchased a guaranteed place before April 30th have the option to have their race pack sent to them (approximately 3-4 weeks before the 2012 race) or to collect it from the 'Are You Ready' Brighton Marathon Exhibition.

Race packs for all ballot entrants and charity entrants MUST be collected at the Are You Ready Brighton Marathon Exhibition at the Brighton Centre between Friday April 13th and Saturday April 14th. Doors open at 12pm and close at 8pm on Friday and 10am to 6pm prompt on Saturday.

We suggest that all race packs are collected.

Why do we have to collect our race packs?
For the last two years some Race packs have not been received on time by our runners. This has led to an increase in work load for the Brighton Marathon team at the most critical period before the event. To ensure that we do not have the problems in the future we have decided to ask runners, or a friend, a member of their family, a running buddy or a colleague to collect the number instead. This should ensure that every runner wakes up on race day morning with the correct information, number, race chip and kit bag.

Looks like the perfect taper for you. As Stoichkov says, no point in the 2 miler.

Its all about recharging the batteries now so you feel as fresh as possible on the start line.

Very early forecast for Brighton marathon day (from notoriously inaccurate Metcheck!):

6:00- 11:59 Temp 7 °c Feels like 5 °c Rain 5.0 mm 24 mph wind (from south).

Temperature perfect. Just need to reduce the rain and wind (but at least from south so side not head wind) and will be ideal, unlike last 2 years!

Appreciate likely to change massively in next 10 days, but I'd settle for that.
