Looked up the results of the Arundel tri. Looked pretty damn good to me but awaiting your full race report with anticipation.
I did a rather strange 5K: 12.00 out and then by my current standards a rather rapid 11.02 back.
I can't find the results but my rival made up 30 seconds on swim, 5-6 on the bike and I chased down 5-6 mins to overtake in the run in the final half mile. I then put 30 seconds between us as he started 30 seconds after me BUT he is claiming victory. It would be by seconds.
Happy with sticking at it. Ran with calf ping from bike which has needed ice and have 2 massive red raw heel blisters.Looks like all in vain........................

that is spookily close over a tri. I know this question ranks alongside 'But how was the play. Mrs Lincoln? 'in terms of its crassness given that your sole objective was to beat your (now, ex) mate, but were you happy with the time? (Les Pearce I recognise from local runs -- he is some swimmer and cyclist it appears.)
The swim was a token 250m due to covid restrictions (but I have never lost to him in around 20 tris till today) and the bike I'm very pleased with as this month's 3X20 mile sessions were my grand total over 18 months.
The run I'm very happy with considering I had no breakfast or food as 4:50 was a bit early, drank only tea and coffee before hand (no drinks stations due to covid restrictions).
Great training to chase down someone when you don't know how far ahead they are. I had to put in max effort at start and hope to hang on. I managed to come down the hill sub 6" mile pace and reach 5" mile pace on wet slippery chalk on the way. After reaching him I kicked but my final half a mile on the flat was 8:30 pace. It felt like a sub 6" mile. The 2 hours of trying to beat the **** paid it's toll and the muscles weren't good enough.
The time isn't comparable as Raw Energy Pursuits like difficult courses and the three disciplines weren't the standard distance. Bike 3 miles short and run was only 5.5 miles.
Very enjoyable morning in the pi$$ing rain and I'm ready for a rematch..unfortunately his inner tube blew in transition during the run, bad timing.

My first post on this thread - any recommendations? I've got a treadmill coming next week (Technogym Myrun) to my brand new home gym which I'm very excited about, but I feel like I've always underinvested in my running shoes as I've tended to focus on weight training rather than cardio.
In particular, probably due to my poor running technique, I have a tendency to twinge the outside of my right knee (iliotibial band I believe) so anything that's going to give me some extra protection (from myself) on that front would be appreciated.
Of course we care [MENTION=6886]Bozza[/MENTION] What else is there to do but shop whilst waiting for blisters to heal on a day like this.

Both of the shoes I mention above are decent shoes (which is why I've gone for them!), although I'm hesitant to suggest anything for someone who may have injury problems.
The Invincible has Nike's best ZoomX cushioning - the first time they've used it in a non-racing shoe - and lots of it. As I say the reviews have been very, very good.
Away from those, the Nike React Infinity Run was marketed specifically as a shoe that prevents injuries.

One thing to mention with Nike is their returns are exceptional, so you can buy something, give it a go, and if it's not working for you, they'll give you a full refund.
I have a pair and have used them 3 times in a year. Great race shoe. Wore them on Sunday for a 10k at the end of a triathlon. Unfit cycling legs were very heavy and the soft foam bounce the shoes gave me from the start was very comforting.
You have to be careful on the ground you run on as they wear quickly.
Would wear them all the time if they cost £50.
Yeah, they're the Vaporfly Next% that I mentioned above. They are a highly-rated and very fast racing shoe and you'll almost certainly get speed improvements from them. It's what speed merchants such as Kipchoge and NSC's own Artie Fulkin go for.
As I mentioned above, the Next% 2, which came out a short while ago, isn't included in the 30% off. Nike bizarrely priced the second version £30 cheaper than the older one. The shoes are very similar, certainly underneath, but they changed the upper a bit.

I feel like I should probably go for a really decent, reasonably priced shoe like those linked above (I'd seen the Pegasus ones previously), but I can hear the voice of my inner, excitable child telling me to go out and buy the bright orange, super-fast Vaporfly's because they're so f**king cool on every level.
I guess it comes down to whether they'll last me. I'm planning on doing between 30km and 40km per week, a mixture of road and treadmill. At £170 they seem a steal, but is this just a clever ploy to get me hooked on running shoe crack that I'm going to have to replenish every four or five months?
