Worthing
The corners will go in a long time before the extra tier. Its a cost thing here isn`t it. Everything is in place for the corners although how the travel works out this coming campaign may have as big a bearing on the future works as our league position and subsequent season ticket sales into the 2nd season.

Argus:

17,500 tickets sold including 1901

200 people currently on waiting list

Ken Brown ' We are at the top end of our expectations and we are very happy. There is a huge demand for tickets. We have started a waiting list, that may change, we might release some more. At least 5% of tickets will be available on a match by match basis. People will be able to come and see us but they will have to be smarter and quicker.'

The club is waiting to see how the season progresses before deciding whether to apply for planning permission to add capacity in the corners of the ground.

Martin Perry ' If all went well, we might be looking at doing something next close season. We would probably put in a planning application for the lot, taking us up to about 30,000, but then phase that in gradually. It all depends on demand.'

The latest Argus figures are incorrect:

The season ticket office gave the precise figures a while back:
- 16,000 regular season tickets (sold out)
- + 2,600 1901 Club memberships (sold out)
= 18,600 (so 1,100 more sold, than the Argus is stating).

Leaving 2,575 South Stand
and 1,325 for match only sales, club staff and FACup Away-following overflows into East Stand.

The Argus article of 23rd March
The Amex on course for 20,000 crowds From The Argus)
was close to the true figures.

If the figures are correct we could end up with less than the often quoted 900 matchday tickets for general sale even though Ken Brown has said that at least 5% would be available (technically accurate if club staff and sponsors tickets are added on but I thought they were in the region of 500)

That's right, with staff taking precedence over one-match-punters.

Expansion needed quickly not to alienate those who can't afford season tickets, and bring Sussex school kids in on cheap tickets to indoctrinate as fans of the future.

@Wanderer
these figures
are different to these ones
Our average gate last season was 7.352 not 8,900.

Just saying.

Tim Carder's excellent season by season Brighton history (which sadly petered out in the mid 1990's) concurs that we had an average home gate of around 25,000 in 1979-80 and and over 29,000 average for 1978-79 ( 2nd Div) ignoring cup games. The Arsenal game in 1988 was definately over 26,000 - I can remember being crushed so badly I couldn't breath. Still have the terraces back any day.

Remember going in the Mullery years with 30,000 to 33,000 on occasions, and they were just the declared (to HMC&E) attendance figures.
As a kid it seemed magical, especially evening games under lights.
