This is the thing though, I have an iPhone and an iPad, both do a job, I certainly don't see the need to tell people how amazing they are and that they feel nice in my hand etc it's like some kind of bizarre justification of having the latest fashion accessory, if that's what people want to spunk their money on then so be it, but don't pretend everything they make is revolutionary and ground breaking when in reality not a lot has changed since the iPhone 4 was released.

I don't, but why does it annoy so many people? These Apple threads have more people criticising Apple than they do fanboys. There is an irony…..

Absolute tosh, I had a Galaxy S3 for 2 years and it was superior in every way to my 3gs which I had previously. Shamefully I got duped into another iPhone thinking that it would have really improved since the 3gs...what a disappointment. I just don't get why people try to make out Apple is so superior when there is very little difference between the products available. Cheers for all the thumbs downs too nice one

Itunes is a joy to use. That's the one thing I missed the most when I switched to android. I'm happy to pay for my music and don't want to have multiple accounts open so found myself using my iPod classic all the time and using iTunes on my laptop. Won't need to do that with a 128gb iphone 6!

I also prefer the user interface with the apple products. It's just what I prefer. Safari is also a great smartphone/tablet browser. It's the simple things they do well. I'm really not bothered by having freedom to do what I want on my smartphone like you get with android. It over complicated things for me. I just want a simple, easy to use product and Apple has provided that to me the best so far.

Android isn't bad though... It's good to have choice for everyone.

You've had thumbsup from me even if I've disagreed! You're sort of right I think, what Apple has done throughout it's history is develop products that no one else could see a market for. Steve Jobs for example, didn't invent the mouse. It was a prototype sat in the development offices of HP where they hadn't a clue what they could use it for. Jobs knew immediately it could be revolutionary with a GUID OS (again something no one really had an interest in developing), coupled with a computer with a built in-screen suitable for home use. None of the technologies were necessarily invented by Apple, but the invention was Apple's to put them all together. Similarily there were MP3 devices before the iPod, but none had the capacity or ease of use of the iPod which revolutionised the market with an existing technology.

So I agree, in revolutionary technology terms, they've not often invented the wheel, but what they have done is made new products that appear to be something we never had but suddenly we can't actually do without - and they've often made them beautifully designed and great objects to own. Sure, competitors produce equally good products, sometimes cheaper, sometimes better, but I've never engaged with that side of the argument really, because the development of technology is good for all of us - you really don't want just one company dominating a marketplace.

That is what engenders the affection I think. I've been using Apple since I wrote many of my University work on a Mac Classic II. It was just cool seeing the head of a computer company presenting new products in jeans and a black roll neck, the whole company seemed to engage with design, culture and the modern world making it exciting in a marketplace that was generally nerdy, geekish and boring.

I'd really recommend the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson. Far from a sycophantic piece, it is really a total revealing of both Jobs and what Apple is all about, both good and bad, and just a great read about someone who had such a massive impact on the world.

You're right, apple does have its fan boys. However, from what i've seen recently, the anti-fanboyism that android users come out with these days is far more antagonistic, just have a look at the comments on any apple-related release and all you'll find is android fanboys jumping on every aspect of the release which doesn't match up to their chosen device.

Sometimes I like to throw every phone in the bin apple android or otherwise - being contactable 24/7 can make life so stressfull - getting stressed over whether you have the best phone or os is even dumber !

I love a gadget but these stories always amuse me, I can't get my head around the lengths people will go to just to have a new mobile.

And despite these 2 Royal cock ups the fan boys will still touch themselves into a frenzy about how good Apple is can you imagine if Samsung had released a phone that bends in your pocket or Android released an update that completely bollocksed your phone

Of course not, but it won't stop people telling you it feels better , has a superior screen bla bla bla. I don't understand this strange obsession with people always going overboard on the Apple stuff, if you like it that's fine but don't pretend it does stuff other products can't

I read a piece in Time the other week which pretty much summed up my thoughts about Apple and their products and says the same thing in terms of Apple's approach to innovation as you. It was looking at the smart watch concept but the introduction nicely sums up how they go about things:

"Apple isn't in the business of inventing things, or at least not primarily. It practices a grislier trade: resurrection. The company's modus operandi is to browse the dead products categories, looking for freshly dug graves that might contain carrion ripe for reanimation - digital music players, tablet computers. Sometimes it comes across the walking dead, like the smartphone business, which had died although nobody had noticed.

When it finds a likely candidate, Apple dissects it and studies the various causes of death. Then it builds something so completely thought through, so seductively designed, so snugly embedded in webs of content and services and communications, that it not only lives again, it thrives to the point of annihilating memories of anything that came before. Apple creates demand for things that there previously was no demand for. It takes products we never wanted and convinces us we can't live without them. It does this better than any company in the world."

Only just got a 5C in Baby Blue and then they roll out the iPhone 6. Never been one of them people to wait in line for one though, I find the whole attitude of going there to be the first person ever to get one (out of the other millions who are doing exactly the same thing) all a bit silly, haha. Each to their own though, if it makes them happy.

Both my iPhones have done me proud. My 4S (first iPhone o'mine) is now being used purely for music. My 5C is on contract until Summer 2016, so will probably have an iPhone 8 by the time mine's done! I try not to keep up with the rampant commercialism of the whole iCycle, but this time around, when the 6 hit the shops, I bought my 5C a fancy new case for £3.99 + Free P&P from the states.
