"holes in my argument"? Grow upwards Hungry Joe you knob.

I'm 6ft and 42 years old thanks so I'll pass if it's all the same to you. And my, what anexample you are, calling a fellow supporter a knob on an internet forum because he calls into question the validity of your arguments. Go Super Steward!, we all love you.

Total respect to FC United - true fans who took a bold move to turn their backs on the Glazers - inspirational, alongside AFC Wimbledon, as we have been ourselves over the years; we managed to turf out our cuckoos, others have not been so fortunate.

Tremendous support last Saturday. Good luck for the years ahead, just not in the replay!

I think it took me about a minute to read that. A minute of my life I won't get back. What a load of drivel.

As Hungry Joe said, rather a lot of (gaping) holes in your argument.
This.

NMH, please just answer the question, then this stupid thread might eventually sink. Why is it OK for FCUM fans to stand up, but not H block. I don't even think anyone is expecting you right this wrong on your own.

P.S. not sure what Hungry Joe said to warrant being called a nob.

For those hopefully coming up next week, weather permitting, best part of 8000 tickets sold already, 2500 POTG left. Brighton fans will be in the main stand and the place will be absolutely bouncing. If it does take place, safe journey one and all, its feckin freezin in and around Bury at the moment:eek:

Ermm.... not sure if I need warrants there Simster. I feel the lurve from Hungry Joe, and Safeway, all the time. Regardless of whether it has much to do with anything I'll get your boring jabs at my opinions whether it has to do with anything or not - and then of course you'll all go whining that in some snitty defensive fashion when I give as good as I get.

As for answering your question, I don't know the answer as it's not an accurate question. It's not 'okay' for FCUM fans to stand up, and it's not 'okay' for H block fans to stand up - but both do it. The 'away end' stewards are responsible for monitoring those fans and I can't tell you what they said to them. They obviously didn't have a huge hand that pushes a mass of fans down into their seats, as I noticed the FCUM fans were rocking and rolling their end of the joint.
I can tell you is that I thought they made a terrific noise, behaved and spoke well for their causes and their club from my observations, and apparently enjoyed the day despite the view and without chants of "town full of Gaylings" or "we can see you holding hands" etcetera (not that I would particularly get bothered by those chants either, as ours have responses for it).

I think this is old ground you people are covering with this "why can't we stand"? thing. I'm sure it must be a drag at times, but when a crowd is mixed like the South Stand has, some don't want to stand OR have someone insisting on standing in front of them.
I worked at Carlisle for several matches and observed their terraces - but I don't believe the league will allow that ground to stay as it is if they go up to the Championship. We HAVE been up, hosting games at Withdean, and we hope to get promoted again as we enter The Amex Stad.
Some of the constraints that Withdean Stadium includes, won't exist there - but I don't personally know what that'll mean to you or Albion Stewards - probably have to wait and see how it works, when you get there.

To be fair I can understand peoples grief regarding this, we had been told before the game about the over zealous stewarding at your ground so was expecting problems as we like to stand. It must seem like one rule for them and one for us to you, but as I am not at your ground week in week out I can't really comment. Just to say that I was in your J stand, to the left with about 5 other fc'ers and a Brighton fan and we stood all through the game and no one told us to sit down. No colours by the way and we kept quiet.

NMH - you showed us a picture of your dogs on YOUR bed and the bed appeared to be a sofa bed. I thought you lived in some sort of rural idyll with signed photos of all those bands you have met over the years, adorning your country palace.

Seriously, why would you be a steward if you could afford not to be? A litter patrol or selling programmes would be doing your bit and still allow you to watch the game without having to worry about the crowd.

I enjoy it. I doubt there's many better reason for doing anything, than that.
I have taken first aid training about three times in my life, so why I should care about a crowd-let-alone-any-other-bugger is probably questionable to you - but such responsibilities have led me to use my training a few times. A couple of motorcycle accidents, car smashes, seizures..... but happily and thankfully nothing extremely gory so far. I confess to being nervous that I might come across something very nasty one day - as I would feel the responsibility come over me to try and do something for the victim/s and not stand there frozen in loathing, fear, stupidity, or morbid curiousity (like always-surprisingly several people have done at events I've had to come across and do something). I hope I never freeze, but I can't deny that it still makes me nervous to consider.

No idea about sofa-beds, I haven't owned one in years and when I did, it was for guests to crash on.
I only have one dog, and so I can't fathom where I might have had a photo of a sofa-bed with dogs on it!

I should ask WHY you care what my financial status is, or want to find out if I own a sofabed Sherlock?
What would you conclude?
Yes, I've crashed at friend's houses a few times, rather than get a hotel - does that satisfy you any?

And as for the question of why you think it is fine for FCUM so stand up for 90 minutes but not for H Block to do so?

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
To cut that ramble short, they had no control over the away end. They were not able to adhere to guidelines and the legalities of an all seater stadium as the standing was en masse. The only solution, according to the FA, is to limit allocations and issue fines.

They weren't doing their jobs as it is impossible to control a large amount of fans, whereas a small block is an eay target. Easy to admit, shirley?

Safe standing is the answer and it is a shame that the authorities will bow to various pressure groups in favour of what, I am sure, is the vast majority of football fans.

Safe standing and seats is highly preferable to an all seater stadium, so that people are able to choose. Grrrrr.

Good work!
I agree with most of that really.
As a personal choice I'd rather we could have standing terraces too, but for the Stewarding aspect it's necessary and required to crowd-control accordingly.

The part I could take issue with is "weren't doing their jobs" and "easy target", as it suggests Stewarding is only done when it's easy - which isn't the case.
The away end isn't an easy job either, though I heard a lot of praise from those stewards for the FCUM fans.

I imagine that, on the whole, our travelling fans might find a reasonable welcome up there from FCUM fans (whenever the game will be played) - and helped by Brighton and Hove Albion's reflections on, and interractions with them. It wasn't too long ago our fans were bemoaning the nastiness of Cardiff fans at away matches over there, but it's nice to have good impressions of a club and their following.

My I mention a couple of points purely as a neutral on this

At FC home games part of the agreement we have with Bury is that all stands we use are run at a ten per cent less capacity then normal to allow standing
This was also the same for the game at Rochdale the stand we was given was also on a reduced ten per cent capacity to allow standing

On the other point about the old and the infirm etc who can not stand there is an area further down between the "Standing area" and the away fans that has been left for people who either need or want to sit down this has never been a rule or a set area and has just been a natural progression

Ermm.... not sure if I need warrants there Simster. I feel the lurve from Hungry Joe, and Safeway, all the time. All the time? Are you sure? I can't remember the last time I even replied to one of your posts. Sounds like you're a bit paranoid NMH. As for giving as good as you get - would you care to read my post again and explain how it deserved a personal insult (albeit a very mild one) in return? Or is that another straightforward question you're going to dodge?

Of course, you're in the FAMILY stand aren't you!

Why DO you enjoy the job so much, exactly?

1/Rarely any one place - but I last worked the Family Stand about 3 months ago. I was at 'G' Block for the FCUM match, then escorting players off the pitch, then attending to the Away Stand while the FCUM players SAFELY did a meet and greet celebration with them, and finally made sure they all left so the stand could be vacated, safely.

2/I enjoy having some responsibility over YOUR health and safety, Safeway.
