I am unsure what you are offering this as proof of?

That Liverpool has a gangland presence and seedy dangerous underbelly?

Or that Liverpool's underbelly is worse that other cities?
That it’s overrun by drug gangs and corruption.

But why don’t you move there from Victoria, Aus if you believe in it that much?

The only time anyone moves TO Liverpool is when they go to University and why not? It’s cheap, large, loads of sport and culture going on, great parties and pubs / clubs. There’s loads going for it on a temporary basis.

Not many stay. The professionals and footballers live in Cheshire.

f*** me, some of the generalisations and opinions spouted off as ‘facts’ on this thread are unbelievable….
I remember the Paris final recently where posters had to eat humble pie after blaming Liverpool supporters for what was happening …only to be found totally wide of the mark.

In how many other cities are 9 year old girls shot by drug dealers chasing each other?

Would the BBC have made a celebrity of Curtis Warren if he’d been a petty thief from Watford?

Ever wondered why the cab drivers in Liverpool are white, while they’re mostly foreign elsewhere (including Amsterdam)?
I’ve found one who isn’t white 😉

Footballers, yes - but professionals? -all professionals? - bollocks. My once seedy old student flat in Toxteth is now worth a £million, in a highly desirable area, completely restored to its Victorian glory - and there's plenty more areas like that.
I know it's north of Watford and all that, but some of the drivel written on NSV about Liverpool is just that - drivel (and yes, I have been back since my student days!)

I bet it’s not. Post the postcode and flat number and we’ll check on Zoopla.

You up for that?

I would imagine as you live in Australia you probably wouldn’t see news reports about gang crime in Liverpool.
I could go and link some recent news reports, but there have been some shootings including the young girl shot in her own home by a gangster chasing another gangster that forced his way into her home.
Another young woman minding her own business enjoying an evening out when gangsters burst into a pub and shot her when trying to shoot some other gangsters.

Not sure I’ve heard of anything like this happening in Brighton….yes I know Liverpool is much bigger

It's not really that I believe in it, as I said I haven't been there for a long time. It's more than I am unsure if it is really that much worse than anywhere else.

One thing I am pretty sure of is that it is seen differently. Not many cities are blamed in the same manner for the actions of it's residents. Someone luzzes a bottle at a team coach anywhere else and they get called an idiot etc. This guy does it and before too long we are talking about everything the city has been involved in except the bottle luzzing.

Maybe this is because the city is overrun with gangs and corruption. I suspect though, that it is also to do with a prejudiced view of the city and it's people held by many that you just don't see with other cities.

It's not somewhere I have spent a huge amount of time but I wonder if the situation you describe is any worse in Liverpool than other cities.

The surface and underbelly contrast can be said of most cities around the world, should one choose to focus on it.

It undoubtedly is. I've been going to Liverpool to visit friends and for work purposes since the 90s.

A mate of mine started a club night which got more and more successful. He was told to pack it in if he didn't want the venue catching fire or long term health issues. A.number of posh night clubs appeared in the Wirral to attract the footballers cash but they all caught fire (Peter Crouch even references it in his book). New taxi firms also have a tendency to spontaneously combust which is why it's all white, black cab drivers when you get a taxi anywhere. You may have noticed a theme here.

I also know a few criminal legal people up that way. Suffice it to say that some of the stories that I can't repeat about high profile legal cases would make your eyes water. Understandably, they are busy people.

I've had some great times there, met some great people but the city itself is a world away from say Birmingham. It's criminal underbelly is no myth and is different culturally to anywhere else in England that I've been.

On the plus side, the Hole in the Wall does a cracking pint of Guiness.

Exactly.

But in the spirit of EDI let’s let someone stuck on the other side of the world think they know better.

Yes I did see a bit of that. Terrible business.

Is this evidence that Liverpool is worse than other places? I should add that this is a genuine question as I am not there so don't know.
