The worry is Coppell is well respected by all at Reading and has had a number of dealings with them since joining us (Sidwell, Rougier, Henderson).

I would say, in all honesty, I think it is ODDS ON that he will be the number one replacement target and for that, we should all be concerned.

I mean, for Coppell to be on the West Ham shortlist of three shows how other clubs covet him.

Surprised he was not offered something bigger in the summer.

I heard this from a Reading fan last week, I fell about laughing. Sanchez is complete cack and even the Wycombe fans are pissed off with his style of play - please let this happen!

You have my sympathy, Wilts (although not your club for reasons I'll outline). For me, Pardew's shown his short sightedness - at the moment I'd suggest Reading is a better bet for a manager than West Ham. Failure to get WHU out of this division will be a disaster, if Reading come close (say another play-off defeat) then I suspect only Madejski himself will consider it 'failure' in such bald terms.

What Reading have achieved lately for a club of their size is already a good effort. To keep them challenging and maybe get them into the top flight, even with Mr Mad's money behind him, would represent a huge achievement for any manager, thereby opening him up to a world of really big boys, not just your West Hams of this world.

I don't feel particularly sorry for Reading FC 'coz they'd have done the same in similar circumstances, as any club would, plus of course the pinching of Sidwell etc. Also, Mr. Mad is a wealthy bloke who must have very strong ideas and drive to have done what he has with that club already. He can not only afford to keep Pardew 'gardening', he's got the strength of will to do so and get a good man in to replace him.

You'll be alright in the long run I reckon, Wilts. Just keep your thieving mitts off Coppell. Ta.

Can't argue with any of that... seems very fair and truthful to me. You seem to have good knowledge of our club, which some Reading fans on the other board could do with knowing!

To everyone - there is 0% chance of Sanchez going to Reading. He has been turned down twice in the past for being shite. And he's still shite!

What amazes me is that Madjeski is a self-confessed non-football man. Despite getting something like £175m for Auto Trader he's surely not a bottomless pit, having already ploughed something like £50m into Reading. There must come a day when he decides his money might be better off going elsewhere....or staying in his own pocket.

I agree with this uphill gardening thing Reading are harping on about. At the end of the day, Majeski gave him a contract to last x amount of time with the clause that he could speak to any Premier club.
West Ham arnt that.
End of story. It frustrates me that players and managers could do what they want when they want to regardless of a contract. Which brings me round to Coppell. whereas the set up at reading loooks good enough to support Premiership football in the next eighteen months or so, the chairman and board seem to keep themselves out of interfereing with the football side too much, the fans are turning up and doing their bit, the stadium is terrific.......

My thoughts on the subject:

Trevor Brooking: You're a coward. A one-club man, that club are in crisis and you turn your back.

West Ham: They've played it by the book, so far.

Pardew: Reading are in a far better state than when he took over. He's been there for a while, this is his shot at the big time, West Ham will go up barring a miracle and anyone in his shoes would jump at the opportunity.

Madejski: Get real. Contract, schmontract. Pardew's leaving the club in a good state, there will be a stack of good quality applicants and Reading should still reach the play-offs at the least. Screw a few £100K out of West Ham by all means, but move on and don't let this f*** up your season. As far as other candidates go, Coppell would take some beating, although I hope you go for someone like Ronnie Moore.

Reading fans: This is a temporary blip. Us Albion fans are used to this, it's not the end of the world, trust me.

I hope you're right Nelse, I really do. BUT...he bailed out on Man City after 44 days. Taylor bailed out on us when he didn't even have a job to go to, he only thought he did. Adams left, not even for the no.1 role at the time, despite being completely shat upon by most of his former clubs, but being backed completely (and offered a four year contract) by Knight.

Managers are, in the main, as mercenary as the players. It really winds me up to hear the LMA bitching about managers' treatment whenever one of them is sacked, but staying silent when a manager chucks in a job 'coz he thinks the grass looks a bit greener in that slightly bigger garden over there.
