Ive got to word this carefully;-

I don't think I'm now mortally offended by the Tinkoff & Lampre kits.
I'm particularly taken by Tinkoff's bike/kit combo.

The thing with those shoes is the amount of money ive spent over the years on 'winter' socks and overshoes, is nearly twice what I paid for my shoes and they are so much better.

Don't forget Fantasy is a snickers not a sprint all you Team Tom and Marcus' wont be picking up points in the second half of the race, at which point Bob Jungles will be flying high.

I think if they had my size I'd have been tempted to find out how obscenely smelly I could make them in a winter!

I bet no where near as smelly as any of SB's fantasy teams, 'cos they all stink

When Riccardo Stacchiotti is donning the pink jersey I'll be laughing last.

What is going on? Absolutely superb win from Wellens yesterday. A really interesting stage with some of the big boys struggling (Nibali, Landa); Dumoulin still pretending he isn't trying for the overall (of course you're not!); possible trouble within Astana (Fuglsang pulling all the way to the line?) and Cycling Geeks all the way down on page 3.

Is there a big football match or something?

It's worse than that!

I'm off to Sheffield and so will have to miss Nicola Boem taking and epic stage win today.

Good stage yesterday and a well deserved win for Wellens. Think Tom D has finally 'come out' about his GC ambitions now. Can't see him making it all the way as there's just too must elevation ahead, but with a couple of ITT's to come and none of the supposed favourites flying at the moment, things should be really interesting.

Annoyingly I found it a bit boring and a bit hard to follow yesterday to be honest (my bad as I was trying to work too). As it hotted up with 20km to go or so I had to go out for a meeting, came back to hear the pundits talk about what a thrilling end. Typical.

I think Landa and Nibali have come in under cooked, and are hoping to be bang on it for the third week. Will be interesting if Dumoulin can build up a decent lead, before the proper mountains begin. Boem available at 80-1 if you are that confident...

I will also be in Sheffield, though I arrive at 15:30, so may get really lucky and catch the finish in some sports bar.

It was a bit bizarre yesterday. No TV coverage at all for an hour and a half due to bad weather. It looked like bit like the peloton had been bust apart on the descent, then it turned it hadn't; then the peloton riding at a pace we could keep up with for an hour or more. Wellens gained 9 minutes in half an hour, they were going that slowly. Nibali's attack was probably the weirdest thing though, he just didn't have the legs, and burnt his last match with 3km to go. He did not look well crossing the line.

I was a bit woo-ey after yesterday's ride, and suffering from a Fantasy nose bleed!

Can anyone remember if recently we've been here before with Nibs?

I've got it into my head he's come into a Grand Tour as favourite.
Made an early attack, had it blow up in his face, then limp round till the last 2 or 3 days/climbs, when he was 100% but too far back.

Or I might just be making it all up

So, quick one, I've had Bi for about 4 years now, according to Strava I've done 4000 miles on her; rain wind and snow. I've only changed tyres, cables, chain and front mech. I bought it off a friend who may have also done a few 1000 miles on her too.

Anyway, BB is loose, took her in to LBS and we get into chat about whole groupset replacement as given we might be upward of 5000 miles, might be worth doing rather than doing one bit at a time. Current groupset is fishing tackle 105. They even suggested getting a deal of Chain Reaction or something and they'd fit it as they can't compete on groupset prices and would have to get it in special.

So, fishing tackle groupset Ultegra is about £430 plus say £150 to fit. A new 105 set would be £240. Would you always upgrade? Is it best to stick with the fishing tackle if that is already what the bike is set up with? Am I better doing just the BB, chainset and drive chain, or is a wholesale groupset change the way to go? I can always use the stripped off components on another bike. Must admit rear mech is looking a bit beaten up and as I've said before on this forum is only doing 9 gears instead of 10. LBS reckoned the springs inside can go, but could also could be the hanger to be fair which I don't think is dead vertical.

Decisions decisions.

Surely it's just time for a whole new bike...

Ha ha that is what a mate said who walked past and saw me in the shop! What are you ****ing around for, replace the BB, use it as your winter bike and get a spanking new one.

I love my Bianchi though, she is like a mistress to me, when I'm not feeling the love at home, I can jump on her and really release my frustrations taking her up, down, flat out, and she just loves it when I give her a really good hammering.

A whole new bike with Ultegra is going to set you back around 2k so getting it all swapped over and working perfectly for around £600 is a great deal. Especially if the frame is still in good nick. See if they'll sort the rear hanger out and think about getting a new cassette - then it'll be purring.

Once that's all done its time for some spanking new wheels!!!

Cheers IL, the rims are looking a bit worn to be honest, so yes, there is that on the agenda too. The frame as a couple of chips, but it is still on great nick and it I've found it a really comfortable geometry.

Fitting a group set is actually pretty easy, you could buy it cheap, fit yourself then just pay the lbs for a tune-up.

That's sort of what I did with my TT bike. Bought the frame and fitted the groupset myself (having never done it before). All pretty easy, then paid about £40 to LBS to get it checked over and serviced.

I'm on last generation Ultegra, bur very impressed with it. I think if I was replacing a groupset I'd always look to upgrade if I could. Should I ask if you've though about Di2?

As my winter 'hack' wasn't forthcoming (it's now in LBS window) I've just done this, instead.

I went from a standard 53/39 10 speed veloce, to Athena 11 speed semi (sports) compact.

I bought from Chain Reaction, the Athena had over £300 off as it was reduced by 57%.
While looking, their sale items seem to have a mind of their own, with the % discount moving up and down almost daily.

As I'd saved so much money I got lazy and figured 'do it once, do it properly' and took the big (exciting) box down to Glyn.
He fitted it all, said there were a few problems with cables etc, but as usual did a fantastic job.

My bike feels almost brand new again, esp as it riding so smoothly.

So with that in mind, I'd say shop for the very best deal and go for a whole groupset replacement.
One word of advise would be to check your replacement parts prices.
If, for some odd reason, a Record Groupset was dirt cheap, I won't be able to buy it as I'd never be able to afford the replacement chain and cassette.

Oh and while you're at it, spend the extra cash and get LizardSkin bartape, you won't regret it
(it doesn't have to be celeste).
