Yet another decent striker lost for peanuts. Puts him in the same bracket as Nelson, Zamora, Murray (yes I know he was a free but he also only wanted a modest payrise), Nogan, Byrne, Small, Saunders and the list goes on...To go with the loan strikers we should have signed like Wood, Henderson & Vokes who've gone on to better things.

Very sorry to see Ashley go - but who can really blame him with the stick he has taken from some of the fans?
What concerns me is his "replacement" Obika.
Ash scores a goal once every 3.6 games (4.1 games in the championship). Obika has scored a goal once every 4.8 games (5.6 in the Championship).
And Ash took a lot of stick because of his perceived failure to put the ball in the net!
Gods forbid that Leo gets crocked again. What then?

I don't feel given the situation the club had much choice, he clearly wasn't going to sign a new contract and it gives us possibly somewhere in the region of £1m with fee and his freed up wages till the end of the season to use.

A pleasure to watch him develop, and also to have my view changed of him. I was silly to be a member of an unmet group who sneered and groaned at his occasionl fluffs in the Withdean days. I didn't realise all he gave. Best of luck to him.

Im sure Oscar will be overwhelmed with the who's who of the footballing world presented before him by Mr Burke and his team.
Surely Obika was the "replacement" for the under-used Lita, and his loan was arranged prior to the club knowing that AB was going? There will need to be a further "replacement" now that Barnes is off, at least to cover the period up until CMS is both back and fully fit (several months probably).
Sorry, I didn't realise the transfer window had closed?

FFS. How many more times!? Obika is NOT, repeat NOT, Barnes' replacement. He is Lita's replacement.

Good day - Burnley fan here in peace - well sort of.
One or two fairly ignorant comments about the club, town and it's people - which surprised me a bit. I used to work with a BHA fan many moons ago (if you are reading Charles, hope you are well
) and he was a real, genuine football fan - in common with most of the BHA fans I've met over the years. I can only assume a new breed have been attracted by that fabulous and bright & shiny new stadium. That said I love some of the stuff they do at your gaff - fan comfort seems to be a central philosophy which is hardly the norm at this level.
Anyway, on to why he might have signed for us. Instinct tells me it is all down to the manager. He's wanted him at least since summer and I suspect he was able to win over Barnes. What I've read of him (Barnes) and the little I've seen he is a player very much in the mould Dyche looks for, works hard, presses high up the pitch, reasonable amount of talent and knows where the goal is even if not prolific. I also imagine the contract on offer at Brighton for whatever reason wasn't as appealing, be it money, duration or both. I doubt the level of football would be a factor, with your greater resources I'd have thought over a 5 year time line you'd have far more chance of making it to the PL than Burnley.
I won't wish you luck for this season - for obvious reasons - but I will wish you luck for the future and just ask you to remember that it is as ridiculous a generalisation to assume all people in the North fit the media stereotypes as it is to believe all the nonsense spouted about people from Brighton

All well put. Barnes may divide your fans as he can have a propensity to miss a sitter or two, but he works his NUTS off and has a massive determination to win, which can help drag a team through a poor performance. He's still improving too.
