maybe so ...but a vassel
did'nt he attack Paris and take it more than once and king Henri was no friend either

You misunderstand how feudalism works. He held the dukedom of Normandy under the authority of the french king, but this didn't make conflict between the two unlikely. Remember the early Plantagenet Kings had to do homage to the french king for the likes of Aquitaine and Poitou but that didn't stop them going to war against each other either

Indigenous population ? The population that's been pretty much settled for the last thousand years since the norman conquest.

During the 16th century Romani migrants began arriving in Britain in considerable numbers. Xenophobia was rife and many were unable to settle in London and so moved on to more benign receptions in towns in Holland where their skills fuelled the Dutch economy. I wonder if any of your Norman ancestors congratulated themselves on driving out those foreigners?

In the late 17th century, over 50,000 Huguenots arrived in England. The population of London at the time was 350,000 so the majority settling in Spitalfields caused great resentment from the locals although they eventually assimilated successfuly into society. It's estimated that a quarter of London's population has a Huguenot ancestor, I wonder if any Huguenot blood courses through your bigoted veins?

During the 18th century, 15,000 Africans were brought to to these shores as British sea captains' share of the slave trade. Most were used as servants but about 1000 ended up destitute on the streets of London; too few for your ancestors to get worked up about? I suppose that it would be obvious if any of your clan had found love and marriage with one of those unfortunates.

By the mid 19th century, over 40,000 Asian Indians were living in England, many in London. 25,000 of those were Lascars who'd been recruited by the East India company and many were stranded in London having been refused passage back home. I'm sure your ancestors would've taken them to their bosom.

Throughout the 19th century, the numbers of immigrant Germans increased to a total of about 30,000. Half of those settled in London; do you feel any teutonic leanings or extreme reactions to events taking place around you? Perhaps you have assimilted some German lineage?

By the end of the 19th century, 120,000 Russian Jews had settled in Britain and one of the main concentrations was around Spitalfields. Spitalfields again! How on earth has it survived to this day? What did your ancestors have to say about that?

During the Victorian era, Britain experienced a massive increase in Irish migration, so much so that they made up about 20% of London's population. D'ye feel a little Celtic stirrings in ye or are you pure blood back to your Anglo Saxon (migrant) roots?

After the First and particularly the Second World Wars (during which over 100,000 "foreign" soldiers from India died fighting on behalf of Great Britain) the Government actively recruited labour from all over the commonwealth and Europe to rebuild the economy. From 1955 to 1970, 200,000 Jamaicans settled in Britain and yes, those of us old enough can well remember the racial hatred that generated.

And so it went on and so it goes on and so it will go on.

You really are a very sad little man.

Very much this. Something this thread has done, via your post and the Viking/Norman posts is show that migration has been happening for centuries. And it has been happening all over the world and it will continue to do so. Why some people feel they have a right to a migration halt, a snap shot if you like, at a moment of their choosing is quite frankly arrogant and weird. The world is in a state of flux all the time and the UK is just a very small island playing a part in all of this.

Ah, who is inviting racists, neo nazis, and violent drunks to Brighton for the MFE drunkfest...

This argument is nothing of a sort...the argument is about M&S HR policy...which includes Christians, Muslims, and Jews also.
Nothing to do with the 'hierachy' the 'government'...or anything else..
.

brightspark if you read the fella's post properly of what I replied to you'd know what the argument was about. in future keep your gob shut before making yourself look a further c*nt than you already are.

as for the M&S argument it has everything to do with the government, any sane thinking government would abolish such ludicrous policies from ever existing inside a work practise reguardless....

at the end of the day mucker you are a TURNCOAT and you cant sink any lower than that.:glare:

Well reasoned :lolol:

I'm not sure if you're well versed in debate but when you resort to aggression and name calling it generally means you have no argument, have run out of argument or you have little wit. You cannot win a discussion in this manner. Want to have another attempt?

you call that aggression ?? since when has telling the truth been labelled aggressive behaviour ? the fella needs some sense knocked in to him & by the sounds of it.. so do you aswell.
versed in debate:facepalm:this aint about making yourself look clever this is about basic common sense & fact, and the fact is such policies shouldn't exist whether they be in the work place or not.

although in the main thesedays christians fail to practise their faith this is still supposed to be a Christian country & not a country designed to suit the needs of every other tom dick & harry religion. if we abide by this rule and we cant go wrong. accommodating the needs of every other poxy religion inside a Christian country is the main reason we are having this conflict in the first place.
you'd do well to remember this country is England & not saudia Arabia or anywhere else.

You can add lack of grammar, punctuation and spelling to the list as well. You are British I take it? Or is English your second language? If it is I will take back my comments.

All the time you don't live here you should keep out of this debate.
By the way before you ask I'm Brighton born and bred and 57 years old.

It's my ball and I say you can't play with it, so there!

Or have I just been caught on your fishing trip?

An example of a Christian making a fuss because something they were told to do at work affected their religious belief.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/9802067/Christian-wins-right-to-wear-cross-at-work.html

And personally I think she should have the right to wear a cross at work, the same as a muslim should have the right to not serve pork or alcohol if that is their personal belief and it can be accommodated by the business . Interesting that there wasn't a 20+ page thread about the Christian fighting the system on the grounds of a religious belief, I wouldn't imagine taking a case to the ECHR is cheap and I would suspect it was legal aid funded.

Being a far right politician must be soooooooooooooo easy, given the target audience. This post, reads like a parody.

a) calling their opinion "the truth"
b) threat of violence (laughably immediately after refuting that they are aggressive)
c) mention of "common sense" that is highly debatable
d) "This is England not Saudi Arabia."

You do remember what this thread is actually about don't you?

Being the poster that you think needs some sense being "knocked in to him", can you indicate how you envisage this happening?
