There's nothing to beat a Midwinter Murder on the telly, is there?

It seems to me that the TRUTH of the matter is that the media like to have a story of personal tragedy running across the holiday period. This one ticked the right boxes and made the front pages and TV news bulletins. The fact that it can be packaged up as a very accessible, easy to follow, story - just like a soap opera incident that captures the nation's imagination - makes it all the more suitable for the big media treatment.

People want to know "what happens next". Was it the boyfriend wot dun it? Some people will obviously be slightly disappointed that the poor victim wasn't found under the patio. And have "the couple walking the dog" been ruled out of suspicion yet?

and if the culprit is eventually caught, and found not to be of English stock for at least five generations, the racists will make their move.

Actually i suspect that most of the semi-necophiliacs will be most dissapointed that there was no apparent sexual element so removing their chance to get all 'upset' over that as well.

I think a bit more sensitivity is needed, especially considering a daughter of a poster on here was murdered over the Christmas period. Carry on with your witty little posts though.

Great post, mate, really great. And with so much competition already in this thread. Round of applause and all that.

I think you missed my point BOF. I've not tried to be witty to be honest. I've also not intentionally tried to score any political points.

With regards to the actual murder all I have specifically said is my sympathies to anyone who knew the victim.

My despite is reserved for those who, diana like, parade their 'compassion' for all to see even though they have no personal involvement at all. Not for those personally affected in any way, They only have my sympathies.

Whilst you pathetic people have been arguing, some of us have been doing something proper about this tragic incident. I have demanded a hanging posse be set up

What has turning off my TV got to do with the stats you provided?

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/common

I'd say once every 13 hours or so is 'of frequent occurrence'.

It may not be something that is suffered by a large percentage of our population, but to say a murder occurring once every 13h20m isn't frequent is just not accurate.

no offense but i'm still not convinced tbh. there's frequent millionaire lottery winners but does that make it "very common"?

Ah right, I understand. Apologies, the festive period has numbed all my senses.

In the past twelve months there have been 158 millionaires created by the national lottery (BBC News - Lottery millionaires win record broken in 2010), that's one every 2.3 days. Or one every 54 hours, compared to a murder every 13 hours, or one lottery millionaire for every 4 murders. When compared to lottery wins, murders can be termed "very common".

So you are saying that each lottery winner murders four people? In that case, as much as I love my scratchcard, we should stop the lottery now.

nope, i still cannot agree that murder in this country is a common occurrence!

this country is safer than it has ever been, the chances of a murderer getting caught are higher than they've ever been....

can't be bothered to continue arguing but that does not mean i am submitting!

Point scoring? No, I'm a realist and not prone to being grief stricken over the death of an individual far away, whom I don't know. Keep you' fake outrage and grief over somebody you don't know. It doesn't.worry or concern me.

To be honest I realised I was splitting hairs when I listed the definitions, and have been unable to stop myself continuing.

Suspicion never falls on the people who find bodies. If I was to murder someone, I'd walk a dog the next morning and 'find' the body.... and remove myself from the list of suspects.

And neither am I prone to fake outpourings of grief either. You misunderstand the point of my post. I'm commenting on you bringing immigration into the spackfest you have got going here.

Truly pathetic. Well done.
