Its not often I get to view our supporters from an outsiders point of view, but I was in J stand yesterday. I was as proud of that lot s non stop singing as I was of the lads on the pitch.

And for whoever it was who said about away support being different to home support, well not for us its not, we make as much noise at Gigg as we do anywhere else, as you will see if you come up to visit.

I've been told by people who were in the away end that your stewards were clapping them at the end, and on our way out of the car park even a copper applauded our coach as were leaving.

Hope some of you can make it for the replay.

FC fans

854 - sounded more like 8,500

Quite simply the best and what BHA were playing at treating you like an invasion from North Korea was just a joke. I would imagine the coppers on duty thought it was the biggest waste of their resources in the history of the Sussex Constabulary.

Well done on making Withdean truly rock :clap::clap:

High up on the South Downs.
Liked the way that none of their songs were about abusing the opposition.

Great to hear Ewan McColl and Carpenters songs at the football.

Their fans that I spoke with were friendly football fans enjoying a day out.

It's shameful that the game was category C -somebody should be moved out of their job for that decision. The people on NSC who put out the line that FCUM were mainly banned OT hoolies also made complete canutes of themselves.

Official praise from the club too. I didn't go, but were they all sat down? If not, it does smack a bit of double-standards. Why do away fans get hauled out one week and not another?

"Meanwhile Albion managing director Ken Brown has paid tribute to FC United of Manchester's supporters following yesterday's 1-1 draw at Withdean.

The away supporters created a brilliant atmosphere at Withdean, and were also praised by stewards and police.

Brown said, "Much was said in the build up to the match, but those fans who were at Withdean were an absolute credit to their club.

"They supported their team from the first whistle to the last, in great spirit and great humour, and we look forward to seeing them again for the replay."

Very good point. Time to raise on ask the club. Something like "We are pleased that the middle management of BHA have understood that football fans up and down the country enjoy standing and singing. The conversion of the club on this since FCUM is welcome and so pass on our thanks. We look forward to getting behind the team at the next game at Withdean, with a stewards outlook the same at brighton as it is at Liverpool. Its taken a while but t takes a bigger person to admit they were wrong, so well done"

Failing an official comment from the club perhaps the thread starter, a Withdean steward, would like to offer his opinion? He seemed positively TITILLATED by the FCUM supporters' jumping and swaying.

The police have a hard job but which London MET police chief said (I cant recall the exact quote but) "the measure of a police force is to employ more honest policemen than criminal-and we are failing"? However easy overtime (that we are paying for) is one issue but the BHA middle management have form, they are not customer friendly and have introduced stewards that stare at teenagers that want to sing.

Unless our stewards have some hidden power in their stares like Damien out of Omen I fail to see how being looked at by a steward stops you singing ???

FCUM showed how to bring an atmosphere to Withdean and instead of moaning about our stewards we should be looking at FCUM to see how to support our team.

I think the point being made is that Albion fans are concerned about being ejected/banned if we used the same tactics as FCUM i.e. jumping around en mass.

But then maybe we should try it. Our local orange jacketed pals have no problem wading into a couple of kids but cower away if more than 20 have a go.

Brilliant support, well done FCUM. I apologise for being a little critical of your fan's reaction to the Cat C decision; on yesterday's evidence this does now seem laughable. Good luck for the rest of the season and beyond.

Or must maybe it was a very good bit of planning and policing, that ensured a great day out for the real fans?

Agreed but WCP seems to think you can't sing at Withdean - if some people actually used the energy they put into moaning and booing towards singing we'd at least be moving in the right direction. Standing and jumping is another subject entirely.

As I've said already ... I was approached by a steward and told to sit down for the simple misdemeanour of wanting to see what was happening on the pitch.

She said that she'd been told to intervene by her supervisor.

Brighton fans coppers and stewards were all 1st class today and I hope now you realise why we all got a bit agitated at being categorised with the likes of Millwall,Cardiff and Leeds-we are just a bunch of fans who love football and love to sing-cheers, politico

You're not in the same category as Millwall, Cardiff and Leeds. They're only Category B at Withdean.

Brilliant, brilliant effort from you guys, not missing a beat when we scored. Did I also hear Sloop John B in your vast repertoire?
