From wikipedia:

Jan Johannes Vennegoor of Hesselink (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈjɑn vɛnnəɣoːʁ ɔvˈɦɛsəlɪŋk]; born 7 November 1978) is a Dutch footballer who currently is not with any club as well as having been a regular player for the Dutch national team as a striker. There have recently been rumours that he may join Gus Poyet's promotion-hopefuls Brighton and Hove Albion, who are expected to sign a big-name striker in the coming weeks.

 :lolol:

Sad and boring like someone who makes up false rumours?

I'd think if someone found a heap of threads about bullshit "a good read" then they are in fact are a bit sad, nay, a lot sad.

How do you know they are false?

How do you know he hasnt been passed this information on?

Too many so called fans are too quick to leap down someones throat, As a fan I find it amusing and interesting/exciting, but even if I didnt no one deserves abuse and it's rude and not needed and if thats what albion fans have become im yet again embarrassed to be associated with a set of fans such as these.

Given that 99% of rumours on here are false the odds are in favour of it being untrue.

Nobody is saying ban them when they initially make the comment but if it turns out crap then all they have been doing is winding people up.

Our fans don't deserve that either.

Really couldn't care less who believes it and who doesn't, I was told by someone who I believe to be a reliable source, and thought I'd post it on here for you lot to discuss.

Secondly, for those calling me a child, I'm 20 years old lads, so get a grip. I guess I have to apologise for not using correct language and grammar? As that too seems to be a pointer towards a lie?

It's a message board not an English exam, if by Thursday we have said player, then you can all come back to me and apologise. If not, then hey, my source got it wrong and you can abuse me all you like, sticks and stones kids.

It could start a new and lucrative shirt printing line for the club if they were to insist on all the players having the same.

Glenn Murray of Maryport
Tommy Elphick of Brighton
Inigo Calderon Zapateria of Vitoria

Surely this is all a case of crossed wires?

Someone at last night's FDM dinner was obviously discussing transfer rumours, which then got muddled with talk of 'a big dutch name' for the testimonial, and here we are.

As long as they didn't try to extend said practice to the coaching staff as well.

I'm not sure that 'Anthony Philip David Terry Frank Donald Stanley Gerry Gordon Stephen James Oatway of Hammersmith' would fit on even the largest of shirts.

Its actually like a double barrelled name like Hamilton-Smythe. So he is in effect, Jan Vennegoor-Hesselink.

To quote Wikipedia: Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's name derives from the 17th century, when two farming families in the Enschede area of the Netherlands intermarried. Both the Vennegoor and Hesselink names carried equal social weight, and so — rather than choose between them — they chose to use both. "Of" in Dutch translates to "or" in English, which would mean that a strict translation of his name would read 'Jan Vennegoor or Hesselink'. This could be considered as having the same effect as the double-barrelling of English surnames
