" Incident at the Gates "

Starring

Lord Bracknell as Donald Sutherland who plays the wicked Steward much like his performance in Lock up.
I personally preferred LB's superb performance in Santa Clause 3 :)

Just to make clear before I make my point I am in no way doubting your story.

As an ex-steward, the rules are not "being drunk" as many think but rather "under the influence". This effectively means you can be refused entry after one drink - not very likely but possible.

If you draw attention to yourself then you are likely to be prevented from entering the stadium. I would suggest having a few drinks and then enter the stadium without any quips or smart remarks. I know it doesn't help you about today but "taking it to the top" or the Argus will get you no where based on your account of the incident - the stewards were within their powers to prevent you entry.

Can anyone help? I had a few drinks before the game, but was no way drunk or anything like that. I had got to the gate at the south stand and said to the female steward, "I have got a ticket for the terrace end", for a laugh... straight away a male steward came up to me and said " I cannot let you in, you have had to much". I then went to the police for advice and told them what had happend and they said "We have to go by what the stewards said, either give us your ticket or you'll be arrested". I was so, so angry at this point, that i had no alternative, then to make my way home back to Crawley.
How can I take this further, as i have been supporting brighton since the early 80's and have been treated today absolutley appalingly. All because of one steward decides he doesnt want me there.

Why draw attention to yourself tho eh? It's like getting on a plane. Most folk are half-cut, but the last thing you want to do is catch the eye of some jobsworth on a mission. Cos you're the only one that's going to lose out in the end. Sounds like you got a bum deal tho.

trust me ..ill get my money back at least, too many people just give in too easily, you have to fight your corner and thats what i intend to do... im not a larger lout and was not drunk, so therefore i should not have been refused entry but an ex trolley collector...if you were in same shoes maye you would think differently!

LET IT GO. If this is genuine I reckon you will wake up tomorrow and think. I am sure I posted something on NSC last night.

You're not listening - you were under the influence - therefore the stewards were within their rights to bar you entry. Read the conditions of sale for the ticket or rules for entry into the ground. The stewards acted correctly so why on earth you believe you will get your money back is beyond me.

Before I moved jobs I used to work in an environment where I dealt with loads of customer complaints. Some where founded, some not. But one thing always held true. If the person had no case, or at least could not prove that they did, they got diddly squat. It made no difference if they went to head office, the papers or even god himself. If I thought they were lying or the person they were complaining about was in the right then they got nothing. No refund no apology. They got even less if they tried to shout and get others involved.

I do not know if you are telling the truth, recounting a story that happened to someone else or pulling our chains. Either way the way you are going about it will achieve one thing. Your card being marked for future games. So any excuse to stop you getting in or evict you they will do it.
