He was certainly better with Hammond there, just as Hammond did well with the security of having Bertin behind him.

It is the CM partnership that we need.

Dont forget that DW sureprised a few when he actually brought someone in of Bertin's calibre. I wouldnt back against him coming up with another jem in the next week.

A lot of business is done in the week before kick off

If the only team to take him on TRIAL was Luton and they said NON then is he really really that good....????

We've seen how good he CAN be.

I agree, sometimes he was quality but when he wants to be. Which was what 3 or 4 games?

Personally I cant be arsed with someone who is only going to "play" when he feels like it.

"I am ze great Alex Bertin I only play when I feel like eet"

Sadly, his English wasn't as good as that when I asked him about staying at the shirt sponsors' do in April.

And it's not going to improve if he stays at Luton.

If he did return, knowing that he'd upset people connected with the club, wouldn't he try doubly hard to impress? We would have twice the player that we had before.

I agree. If he can't get a club now then he'd be wise to come back here, even on slightly reduced terms, to give himself the shop window he feels he deserves.

Wha-a-a-a-a? It's because he rejected the reduced terms that he f***ed off to Luton. That, and they're seemingly the only other club prepared to take a punt on him.

In the shop window? He either wants to play for us or he doesn't.

Oh, you're being ironic. I fell for that, didn't I?

Only a little bit!

I'm a bit lost on the chronology of all this. My understanding from what you've said is this;

Bertin leaves the club at the end of the season, with a contract offer in his pocket.

Bertin shops around but finds nothing better elsewhere.

In the meantime said contract offer expires, so he comes back and asks if it still stands, and is told "No, but you can come back for thruppence if you like"

Bertin says "Non, merci".

As for the shop window thing - much as we would all love to pretend otherwise, we will always have players in the squad who see us as nothing more than a stepping stone to something 'better'.

As long as he performs well while he's here and the club profits when he leaves then I could live with it, yes.

Overrated anyway.
He might have better ability, but if he doesn't want to be here then he's not going to be giving 100%. I'd rather have a grafter in the team than a half-arsed french ponce. And by the sounds of it, the rest of the team don't like him or want to play with him anyway - no point in having someone who's going to ruin team spirit, that's why the likes of Knight and Kazim-Richards are no longer with us.

its also why we're still in league 1 with pretty limited hopes of getting out.

A creative midfielder is no good on his own without somebody to win and retain the ball for him.

Its a bit of a tough one.

Give said contract to a player and he signs and plays every game like we know he can so he gets his move to the club he obviously feels he deserves or....

He gets his contract, rests on his laurels and we have dead weight on our hands that (after all) only Luton took a (relatively) serious interest in...

Tough call. Personally the staff know the player better so I would go with them on this.

Hammond is quite capable of doing that.

Or even *dare i say it* El-abd.

el-abd is quite capable of giving away a ludicrous amount of fouls, occasionally winning the ball, but when he has it he looks like a headless chicken with no idea what to do. thats when he is not rolling around on the ground faking injury

hammond gives away a ludicrous amount of fouls as well. and he won player of the season last year when he was used as the more attacking of the midfield two. if he use the diamond formation, then he will be wasted at the base

you moan about the lack of quality in the team, yet here is the perfect chance to sign someone who, although over rated, is a better player than what we have
