Fantastic article but I disagreed with this:

“Wrongly typecast as a proponent of anti-football.”

Only once at the Amex (this season ironically) in the Dyche era was their primary tactic not anti-football.
Be it Barton stamping on Kayal, or the endless fake injuries and stops in play or Burnley players kicking the ball out at every opportunity, I’ve seen enough Dyche anti-football to rightly label that style at his door.

However, that does not takeaway from Burnley’s authenticity, story or character. I don’t think they belong in the Premier League without Dyche. Whilst the poison of foreign owners sucking any semblance of profit out of the club continues, it might be a long time before we see this lot back if they go down.

I feel for the fans, despite them having some of the worst fans in the Country (but also some of the best).

But they should console themselves. Burnley have always been able to find a decent natural striker over the years. Whilst Gout Workhorse is not scoring as many as they need, I’m sure they’ll find another Danny Ings to start plundering the goals in the Championship or League One.

Burnley made a massive blunder sacking Dyche - the Yanks took over the club, loaded it with debt, sold Chris Wood - and then blamed Dyche for the predicament they are in.

Already rumours that Dyche could replaced Steve Bruce at WBA - and it would probably work out very well for both if he did.

A few weeks ago I was desperate for Burnley to go down - mainly because I hate their style*, but also the whole Rodriguez/Bong thing, the racist/homophobic chanting at Turf Moor, "White Lives Matter", etc. Despite all that, I very much admired Dyche.

Now, I'm desperate for Burnley to go down - mainly because their new owners seem to have leveraged the club to its eyeballs and sacked the local hero. It is tricky, though, when there is the alternative option of Everton going down....

*I don't buy this revisionist stuff about Burnley playing good football. OK - they have a few quality players (McNeill, Cornet, obviously) - but the primary tactic has always been to get the ball into the box and let the sharp-elbowed forwards do their business.

I can't say I've ever been anti-Burnley or ant-Dyche. I still remember their fans taking the piss out of Reading that season when they ran onto the pitch to celebrate finishing 7th. F*ck it, let's enjoy it again:

And I've always had a grudging respect for their work hard ethos, and sharp elbowed forwards. Even when they beat us to promotion in 2016 I still hated Middlesbrough far more than them.

The foreign ownership rinsing them of profits is something that concern all of us. The football authorities have been gutless in the way they have barely paid lip service to a "fit and proper" ownership test - in the Premier league alone I can think of several ownerships who ought to fail, the worst being Manchester United. Protecting our clubs from these utter twunts should be enshrined in law now - incompetence at the top of football can't be allowed to continue.

A surprising number, I think they are mostly Wimbledon football wanabees though

Wasn't it the second result? They drew v West Ham 2 days after Dyche was sacked. Though a draw v West Ham isn't too shabby a result for a team in the bottom 3. An interesting pair of results

I'm really torn on the relegation dog fight this season. I'm normally well ensconced in the "Burnley can **** off" camp, but as you say, Everton going down would be hugely amusing. Sadly Watford look incapable of catching them so unfortunately they won't both go down.

Imagine the pundits applauding fat frank if he saved them on the last day, such a great job against all the odds and adversity. Along with such a shame for battling Leeds and their great entertainment value in the Premier League….

NO, & NO again, I’d rather Everton go down still, fat franks reputation damaged, sweet.

Burnley will struggle again next year, Everton can and will throw money at the problem.
Leeds will also struggle again, unless heavy investment is thrown at them.
