If we had murray and cms upfront we would be champions by now with a plus sixty gd.

In all seriousness gus biggest mistake was not keeping him. And gus does make mistakes harley, baz, batti, holroyd.

But then again all managers make mistakes. The good ones learn and im sure poyet privately regrets it.

But then he never REALLY tore League 1 apart in the way CMS, Simon Cox, Beckford e.t.c. did, his value was in his movement, defensive work, hold up play bringing others into the game and from what I've seen, he's very much still doing that in this league

REALLY? If you look at the comparison between how we performed last year with him and without him then you have to change your mind. He was easily the most influential player in the division last year. I was shocked (and still am) that we let him go.

Talk to any Palace fan and see what they think of him. The love him.

We miss Bennett far more than Murray in my view.

if we still had murray, cms would have scored more imo! The opposition would have had 2 nightmare strikers to defend against giving cms more space! But there we are we don't have him so poyet will need to look at others now!

this !!!

English not your first language? Or just too lazy to read beyond the first line? Because you've disagreed with me then gone on to say what I said.

The lack of time that we have on the ball in this division compared to last year means that we have started becoming a bit more direct in the way we play. Ankergren launched several long balls last night and those two that sailed straight over Lua Lua's head towards the end are evidence of that. That is exactly where Murray would have come into his own this season as a target, somebody who very rarely loses things in the air and somebody who can hold the ball up.

That is not CMS's game yet we seem to be asking him to do it at times and none of the other realistic striking options we have can do it either. The fact we seem to be constantly giving away leads as well is where a striker who looks after the ball for you comes into his own

Glenn Murray would have made a difference, but then any target man style striker would have done - perhaps Gus' biggest mistake wasn't letting Murray go, but not replacing him with a similar player

Just to make us feel better one of the resident Palace fans here cannot believe HOW GOOD Murray is at holding the ball up for Zaha and another chap who name escapes me at the moment.

Just a thought. Anyway carry on all the people who say we dont miss him. x

This. In regards to Murray and the OP, the penalty statement is a little naive. Barnes is a better penalty taker than Murray, and Barnes was not on the pitch. However CMS works his socks off for 90 minutes and once he gets the ball in a bit of space, things happen. But he's just not getting the service. Murray would have been perfect for him. I trust in Gus, but I do question his judgement now on this one. We had a good blend last season of the passing game, and then being able to hit the ball long occasionally up to Murray/Wood. Now in a league where it's viable that we have to do this more frequently as the quality of opposition offences is better, we have lost a man primed to play this sort of game.

Has to be said that this makes a lot of sense. We seem to lack presence on the pitch. No amount of flicky-flicky football will make up for this unfortunately.

Surely, Ashley Barnes could learn to hold on to the ball a bit better? It just needs a bit of bottle when you get a dig in the back. Not sure about turning and shooting which Murray can do.

I believe that letting Murray go was a massive error. we would be a much better team with him in it. Frustrating that he is the type of player we are calling out for now.

100% correct. Murray and CMS in partnership would have seen us still in the top two and scoring goals for fun.
