Perhaps I've remembered incorrectly, but I thought that the Chelsea fans were given the east. I remember pockets of Brighton in the north but it seemed at least half Chelsea.

The Bourmouth game spilled onto the pitch when a group from Mid Sussex walked in front of the Bourmouth and they piled down and the fighting ended up in the North stand goal ,in those days Bournmouth had the upper hand home and away. I think one of the brighton boys was someone called for Freddy who use to beg for a sixpence for cup tea anyone remember him.

My understanding was they were just given the corner, no H&S in them days and it held about 3000. But POTG, no colours and the fact there was 10000 of them meant they were everywhere

CHELSEA AND THE NUMBERS GAME GO HAND IN HAND, you could say that about a lot of the top firms in that era, Brighton were seen as easy pickings and to some extent we were ,mainly on match days, but as some one else mentioned SOME OF THE FRIDAY NIGHT ENCOUNTERS WERE A BIT MORE EVEN

My earliest recollection of the goldstone was the early eighties . Remember going past the pub next to hove station with a few weed faces peering out ( one with a big scar across his boat , anyone know him ? ) Standing in the corner section by the north and dodging coins going too and fro . Walking back to the station to be overtaken by a big mob of brighton running to said station only to meet up with them at the top of the steps five minutes later ( lively ) Trying to get on the palace special by going through the weed at the station (the hard part we thought ) only to be bashed as we entered the train by palace thinking we were weed . After numerous cord pulls we were all took off and escorted down to brighton station , very frightening and yet exciting for a young un .

remember YOUR TRAIN AT HOVE STATION after the game was still at the platform when a few of us came up no OB about either, YOU SEEMED RELUCTANT TO GET OFF, not taking the piss but just saying how it was , swings and roundabouts home and away

Was his initials RB ! The main man was a South African with curly hair he did some door work in Brighton pubs I think he moved to Worthing!

We had one amusing trip from Bolton to Brighton, early 80's, maybe first game of the season.
Bolton were all on the train & after the game we were well & truly escorted back to Hove station around side streets & everything to keep us well apart from locals, & then held outside until the platforms were empty.....all normal for the time,
but then the police left us to it, to go onto the station & onto our train, which turned out to be right bang next to a train full of Brighton fans. Straight away there were insults swapped, then punches & then anything that wasn't nailed down, especially fire extinguishers. It seemed to go on for ages, & i'm guessing the police were outside the station congratulating themselves on a fairly peaceful day, while all this was going on inside !!!!

It was late 80's they had the East. they had the corner in the early 80's. Apart from a few big clubs like Chelsea Ive seen more trouble caused by Brighton away from home than at home. That includes palace as well, although a nasty incident I heard about was Brighton loonies using CS gas to attack palace fans.

Exactly and when we played the London clubs it was London we fought. I was speaking to a Chelsea fan back in the 80s and he and his mates always came down no matter which London club was in town. It wasn't just your football fan getting involved some of the locals on a night out were more than happy to lend a hand. Very grateful too on some occasions.
