The dull part of the south coast
Strangely enough, Alf Ramsey. He was a pundit at the 1974 World Cup in Germany. I can't remember whether it was for BBC or ITV. What I do remember was the match that he was covering was held up because of a floodlight failure.

The commentator, trying to fill time, asked dear old Sir Alf what would he do (referring of course to the game - tactics etc.).

Alf replies " I am not an electrician."

Priceless. Never saw him on TV again.

Surprised about how many votes Owen's getting. I mean, he is boring as hell, and prone to stating the obvious, but I imagined he'd slip under the radar (or that people would be asleep when he's talking).

Lawrenson, never heard anyone use so much airtime to say so little. Vacuous.

I like the way he says "merment". As in "just a merment".

Not a pundit, a commentator really.

I often dream of being the Controller for 5Live, calling Alan Greene into my office and sacking the **** on the spot. That would be a good day.

Had Chiles been included in the poll he would have certainly got my vote, shows remarkably little insight for someone who is apparently a huge football fan (though I suppose the same could be said of many supporters!).

I agree that Ron had to go for his uncharacteristic yet unforgiveable racist outburst, but up until that point he was THE DADDY of punditry with some incredible terminology the like of which we haven't seen since. A brief flavour:

Early Doors, Spotter's Badge, Full Gun, Little Eyebrows, Back Stick, Lollipop, Crowd Scene, Going Down By Instalments, Tell You What Clive
Maybe but the sickening way he climbed up United's rectum during European matches was too much for me.
