the fact that some psychotic researchers did an experiment where they kept putting 2 grasshopper mice of the same sex in a small box, to discover the highly amazing news that territorial animals will fight and that the fight has grave consequences when there is no option for one of them to run off does not make the mice hard, just antisocial. Fortunately they stopped at this research so no-one has checked the outcome for higher numbers of mice.

yes they live in small mouse sized burrows, which in the hardest scenario they scared some other species of mouse out of.
