. Buckley also says striker is his best position.

Interesting, when did he say that? I've never thought of him as an out and out striker but with his pace and ball control ( on a good day) he could be even more lethal.

Maybe we don't need another striker unless he is absolutely top drawer?

Exactly this. I'd only want another striker if they were clearly a cut above what we already have.

On FIFA he scores loads when up front with CMS due to his electric pace.

This obviously means the same would happen in real life

Hoskins, CMS, Barnes and Agdestein all look like their chomping at the bit to get some game time up front. We're fairly healthy in that area I think.

Whilst I agree with you to a degree... an injury to CMS and we are looking paper thin in my opinion.

Yes they do, which is great, but none of them give us the 'target man' option that we need.

I dunno if we "need" it, the way we play. Swansea didn't when playing in the Championship.

I think CMS is probably our 3rd best striker, so don't quite agree with you there.

It was in an interview early last season. I can`t remember exactly when, but ever since I read it, I`ve always thought this could be an exciting option. I think he started at Rochdale as a striker.

Buckley is one of our best finishers.

If we was to sign a player whilst over in Spain would the player have to have medical at the Amex or would the clubs doctor be over in spain

To clarify, I mean I think CMS is the 3rd best suited to how we play - quick, passing, touch football.

Cant see any way that Gus isnt going to play 1 u front this season with the quality of wingers and Vicente needing to be accomodated. Can only see 2 up front if Vicente is played wide left

- Because I think we have four really good ones.
- We only play one upfront and Barnes wider, so signing a striker would confine CMS and Hoskins to the bench at best.
- We spent £2.5m on one last year and we shouldn't be so wasteful as to think that throwing more money at it this year is the answer.
- I still back CMS to be the man. I think a fit Vicente is the key to providing him with service he didn't have last season.
- Plenty of people have slagged Barnes off in the past (me included), but he's actually good. Look at his record. It would cost £2 million to sign a player with that record so why do that and waste the one we already have?
- If we can team up Bridcutt, a strong new signing and Vicente in midfield, with one of Buckley and Kazenga, a blind monkey should be able to score goals.
- We have quite a unique style which would take a new signing time to get used to. Why go through that again having introduced CMS to it last year?
- If we sign a new striker, it could be a big money move that just heaps pressure on us/Gus. Pressure is a bad thing for most clubs.

Very good post. I'm really looking forward to seeing Hoskins next year, I really rate him. I'd also like to see Barnes played upfront a lot more, without his defensive duties. The midfielder is the most vital signing.

All of this. I'd like to see CMS and Hoskins fighting it out for that one spot, with Barnes sweeping up behind to get his share of goals.

Well done for finally seeing sense. Welcome back.

Gus said something could happen this week while in spain. But I hear it all depends on the availablity of Tony, who as has been mentioned is becoming a dad for the 2nd time.

In short, this week? maybe.

Isn't that where Vicente plays though, and Barnes takes up a more recessed position on the wings, or do you think Gus will change the way he sets the team up next season?
