yeah you can't do much worse than a player who even a spectacularly poor manager has absolutely no intention of playing and is picking GARY GARDNER over

Would Gary Gardner count as he was a loanee? He was absolutely AWFUL. A free kick "specialist" who didn't test the keeper from a single free-kick. And he took ALL of them

I think it's odd that for the good signings some people are saying "ah, but that was down to Gus/Nathan/whoever" but don't apply that comment to any of the bad ones!

Toko was brilliant on FIFA though.

He really was. Many a time did his midfield brilliance help me win an online game. Always felt a little dirty afterwards though...

As it was at the time, as it shall ever be. Don't misunderstand me, he oversaw some shocking transfers whilst he was here but, as you point out, they weren't all failures.

I drew the line at Holla though. My son said "but his stats are better than Stephens dad". I transfer listed him anyway and nobody showed any interest.

Who says it's not realistic.

To the same level that Burke is being blamed for the rubbish players he acquired (loan or permanent), one is assuming he gets the same level of credit for the good ones acquired during his time here. They include...

Kuzczak
Orlandi
Spanish Dave
Ulloa
Bridge
Ward
Upson
Bruno
Stephens
Teixera
Stockdale

But blimey did we acquire some rubbish during that time.

He also set the specifications in place for the training centre at Lancing.

Yes but his % was poor. In the summer we signed what 7,8 or so players and only Manu was a dud. We could all sign decent players like the above - it's all about % off crap ones and how much money you waste in doing so!

I always sold Holla pretty quickly on FM as well, despite (as you say) him having some of the best stats in the team.

I haven't written off Manu as a dud just yet. He clearly wasn't up to speed with the Championship and thinks he is our best player hence the tantrums but I think given a run of games he may well produce something for us next season

Elvis is almost certainly off.

He has put out an almighty 'come and get me' in the Dutch sporting press.

Is it? That's a rather cynical way of judging someone's value to the club. It's pretty evident no-one wishes to judge him by the successes. That aside, I'd imagine it's a similar percentage at any club.

Do we get to hear of other clubs' development squad players, or one-match loans, or useless donkeys? So, apart from 'well, I'm only interested in Brighton', I'm not sure why Burke would be judged better or worse than anyone else. Unless someone can come up with the first-hand, peer-tested stats for player acquisition in the past.

Well I only compare to our recruitment in the past. It's always been similar %'s but Paul Winstanley has just raised the bar 5 fold for me. So far, he and his team are head and shoulders above anything we've had.

He was allowed to go on international duty because he wasn't required any more.

Well that is bollocks. If a player is called up for international duty and it falls in FIFA's International Match Calendar (which this did) then clubs have no say in "allowing" whether a player goes away with their country. I do admire your attempts to defend Burke on here, but just because he went on your radio show a couple of times doesn't mean you have to come out with a load of blatant bullshit to try and justify the most pointless signing (bar Shane McFaul) in recent memory

More Alan Wares bullshit because he doesn't like being wrong. Clubs aren't asked to ALLOW players to go on international duty. They have no choice in the matter.

Actually they do.

They can refuse if it's a non-FIFA sanctioned tournament. The Gulf Cup of Nations (which was what he went to play for Oman in) is not a FIFA-sanctioned tournament.

It was also outside the FIFA International Window (as stipulated in the International Match Calendar), meaning Wigan - or Brighton - were under no obligation to release him. The FIFA Window at the end of 2014 was 11-15 October and 19 November (for friendlies only).

True, but it was outside the International Window, so it's not bollocks. You've actually contradicted yourself.

Do you? The rest of your post says otherwise, because...

... one - I'm not 'defending' him. I'm adding some balance to some of the hysteria written about him in the past. Is that unreasonable? And two, being a past guest doesn't render them immune from criticism.

Yeah, he brought in some crap, but anyone would think that's all he's done.

The player I was glad to see the back off was Ryan Harley, because he was a lazy S**t who thought he was great. I prefer Chris O'Grady at least the lad's a trier.

The definitive list of crap/didn't work out/pointless David Burke signings:

Nzuzi Toko
Adam Chicksen
Kemy Agustien
Stephen Dobbie
Gary Gardner
Billy Paynter
Leroy Lita
Vitalijs Maksimenko
David Rodriguez
Adrian Colunga
Jon Obika
Aaron Hughes
Chris O'Grady
Leon Best
Paddy McCourt
Danny Holla
Jeffrey Monakana

That team would be good enough to leave Division Four, but it's not good enough for our level.
