[Misc] Who has got an unusual HOBBY?

Used to collect WW1 & WW2 militaria as a kid after seeing a bit on "Why Dont You" about the same thing.
My parents had a couple of shell cases from WW1 that had been engraved with an Angel of Peace, and it just snowballed from there really. Helmets, buttons, medals, weapons, photos...loads of stuff tucked away still.

My most recent hobby appeared to be spending a lot of time searching for and buying motorcycles that I didn't need, travelling miles to collect them and then selling them at a loss.
I have an empty garage now thankfully but I.....can't....stop.....looking..........................just....one.....more.

I have a bit of a thing for music, mechanics and electronics.

When I am able, I build stuff. I've built PCs, guitars, an off road e-bike and loads of heath robinson solutions to solve problems. I'm currently planning an e-quad bike/kart to build with my kids, which may or may not ever see the light of day.

Things on my list to conquer.
1. Welding
2. Bodywork repair
3. Professional quailty spray painting

1. Welding

I did a small amount of welding as part of my apprenticeship years ago but just this last ten days I've been researching cheap arc (stick) welders and watched probably close to 50 youtube tutorials.
All because I'm thinking of getting another motorbike as a project.

You sounds like a "handy" chap.
I can spanner, that's all. Too thick to manage anything else.

My job has no physical requirement whatsoever bar turning up, and job satisfaction is long term. I've found that doing manual stuff has been great for my mental health and my capability and confidence has grown over the years. I had no practical background at all so have learnt via books and internet and talking to specialists.

The good thing is i will have plenty to do when I retire.

I fix and use old fountain pens (generally pre-1950) and have recently started basic restoration and fixes on old watches too. I really like the idea that something made 100 years ago as a functional item can still be used today.

Building custom P.C's from scratch. Used to be a big gamer and would allways have a top of the range p.c to run all the latest titles on ultra settings at the highest resolutions and frame rates available.

Now my gaming time is pretty non existent I still absolutely love getting new parts, upgrading, water cooling and overclocking my system to peak performance.

I have a collection of Star Wars signed memorabilia. I have several photos of the original trilogy cast, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Frank Oz, Anthony Daniels etc, and I have 3 Helmets autographed, Vader signed by Dave Prowse and James Earl Jones, Boba Fett signed by Jeremy Bulloch and a stormtrooper helmet signed by several cast members.

I am looking to do this...I have built the tram , OcCre kits, took quite a few months, I have track on order G scale...1/24, I will build and install a transformer etc, and am looking to run it around my back garden,

I will build a flat bed rail truck and my mrs can put a beer on it to be delivered to where we are sitting.

My Dad, sadly passed now, collected sugar bags. In the days when restaurants, pubs, hotels and airlines all had their own he collected them. Had 1000's and we thought he was the only one until he was featured on BBC Sussex and another person came forward. I think they all got thrown away when they moved.
He also collected diecast cars, Dinky and similar, buying them all when released as new. My Mum gave me box loads hoping they would be worth a fortune but sadly not.

My hobby turned into a part time business, I currently have about 25 thousand of the things and still buy more....
Apparently, among other things I’m a deltiologist!

I have a pile of old postcards, including some Sussex ones and some non PC (nowadays anyway) pretty lady photo postcards found in my mums stuff after she died.
Probably none of them are rare as I tried to sell some on Ebay a few years back and had no interest.
They all just sit in a tin somewhere now.

As previously stated elsewhere on NSC, on expert advice to rekindle a hobby in helping to get myself back on track, I've started collecting Subbuteo after 40 years.

Loving it.

My hobby is tracing my family tree. I have traced my Fathers paternal line back to before 1066 and tracked some relatives in Australia whose ancestor was sent there on a prison ship in 1807. Ideal hobby for lockdown times.

I've done the same. Traced our family back to the Norman invasion too. I'm a direct decedant of a Norman Archer Captain Robert de Blakeland (my surname is Blake). Found out we used to have a manor in Wiltshire but lost it when my ancestors sided with the Royalists in the civil war. Damn it!!! If it wasn't for those pesky Roundheads I could be landed gentry, securing Tory PPE contracts and living a life of riley!
