Mickey Thomas if only he had put his heart into the spell with us, he would have lived up to expectations rather than being a disappointment.

Jason Peake, just thought he'd be good.
Nicky Rust, did ok but thought he would progress much further.
CKR, Melton, Dirk the porn star all disappoonted in the end.
Albert Jarrett looked great at times but never delivered.
Trevor Benjamin = toilet

Biggest surprise for me was Peter Smith, looked totally out of control on the pitch, but did well.
Baz Savage well above expectations on the pitch.
Junior Lewis, never rated him but did well for us.

Alan Duffy - anyone who remembers will know

Still remember that debut now. Has there ever been a better opening goal on your first appearance? I can still recall the gasps of astonishment on the East Terrace as the crossbar continued to bounce up and down. One of the two most ferocious shots I have ever seen from a BHA player ( Paul Clark the other )
There was no way on God's earth he could follow that game ( incidentally, I can't remember his second goal ) and sadly his career just lurched downhill, with stories abounding of his lifestyle and off-field antics.
One of life's mavericks, who, for far too short a time, lifted us all and then left us all hugely frustrated.

Jake Forster-Caskey. Last season I thought he was gash and would never make it but this season he has looked a different player. Getting stuck in and looking more creative to boot.

Vicente.

I imagined he'd just be a magical player for us, the like we've never seen before or will again... He turned out to be so much more

I remember being excited over Mark Farrington,

£100,000 from Feyenoord wasn't it? Seemed a vast amount back then.

As Barry Lloyd said at the time: "He's a more complete centre-forward than Michael Small". He could literally jump 6" in the air. Awful.

Thought Dobbie would be good. He wasn't. Thought Mickey Thomas would be good!

I was very disappointed with Dobbie. I thought he was a proven Championship striker with Blackpool and was really looking forward to seeing what he could do. I'm just glad that we got money for him, but not happy that it came from Palace.

I'm just glad that we got money for him, but not happy that it came from Palace.

It was an absolutely ludicrous decision by the club to loan him to them. If he had gone to them at the end of the year I wouldn't have minded so much but they were floundering for the most part of the second half of the season and he got them into the play-offs. Surely we'd rather have given him to anyone other than a fellow contender? Came back to haunt us that decision :nono:

I must admit I expected Upson to be nothing more than decent backup. He went onto become my favourite player.

El Abd and Bridge for completely different reasons but the same answer - thought Adam was a thug defender and he turned out to be great and thought Bridge was here to pick up a wage and have a nice time by the seaside but was also great for us !

Bas Savage.

I remember the meltdown when he signed for us, due to a frankly awful goal scoring record (2 goals in 5 YEARS) but went on to score a respectable 9 in 36 for us. Would have been a cult HERO after moonwalking in to our hearts, but ruined it all by being a prick when he left us.

Obika- thought he was shite when I first saw him but he ended being even worse than Shite

That overhead kick that almost went out the stadium would've been the funniest thing ever had we not been losing at the time...

When we were languishing towards the bottom of the Fourth tier of the league and playing home games at Gillingham we brought in someone on loan from Arsenal. Yes, Arsenal. Valur Gislason. Someone that Arsenal had got across from Iceland. He simply had to look good at this level. He couldn't possibly be worse than what we had. I thought at long last things were looking up ............how wrong I was. He was simply dreadful! How Arsenal ever signed him up was a big mystery to me (although they were sensible enough never to play him). I often wonder how Gislason felt when he was subbed in his last game at the Priestfield and as he trudged up to the tunnel someone in the crowd shouted so loudly that he *must* have heard it, 'Just f-off back to Arsenal'. Oh the indignity.

Graeme Smith. Big on reputation very, very small on goalkeeping skills. He puts Stockdales dodgy start into perspective, for which we should be thankful.
Smith is the one that comes to mind for me of recent players. CMS has certainly turned that way for me also, sadly.

I've got to admit I was astounded when we let Murray go after the season he had just had. I know there were financial issues but surely they could have been sorted.

Nevermind we've let him go because we have bought someone better in CMS.

How could the club and scouts have got this one more wrong? It was blatantly obvious from the word go. Did no-one who mattered go and watch him before we royally screwed that one up???
