very valid points but the big boys serve decent food, are trouble free and let in kids. The perfect agenda for an away game. Been in Wetherspoons in Liecester, Rotherham, Sheffield, Derby, London, Luton, Ipswich, Bristol, Birmingham and the one in Brighton is the worst one by a mile. Why does Brighton have such a poor one?

On away games automatically head for Wetherspoons as have previously wasted hors trying to find somewhere that will let kids in and where you can get food. If the "traditional" pub was to wake up to this century then i would look elsewhere.

You say the traditional pub needs to wake up but many locals have contraints that do not allow kids into the pub. The law states that no children are allowed into the bar area. This is a somewhat confusing term, who determines what is the bar area and what is ,say a dining area. The only way to have this is to have a defined bar area but many pub premises do not allow this due to their size and therefore are unable to please the magistrates. Even if a defined area is available you then have to apply to the courts for a childrens licence and this is not a foregone conclusion. Wetherspoons tend to be large and not in tradition pub buildings but in old banks etc, this allows for defined areas to be planned before licences are applied for.

The new laws coming into force (commonly reported as 24 hour licencing which is misrepresentative) do allow for certain lifting of the retrictions but only due to a new interpretation of the law. Wait and see.
