So, from those that were there (I wasn't) - what do you think the actual attendance was?

Better than I predicted but lower than 27k! I'd say around 22,000. If you'd taken the figure at 7.45 it would have been way lower than that (and I know people were on the concourses but there was a last minute rush where we were). Having defended Southern all day yesterday they f***ed it up royally tonight.

Oddly, the reaction to tonight's attendence figure was one of mild amusement - even by the tannoy announcer. Were they all mocking the club too?

Not where I was sitting it wasn't, and it didn't sound like it from the announcer to me either. Sometimes people just hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see.

The ground holds 31,000, most of it was full, there can't have been more than 5,000 empty seats. The disparity was no more noticable that any other game.

23000 ish

No way, absolutely ridiculous estimations. That's very nearly a 1/3 empty.

Add your number then. I think that's the way Bozza's game works....

There was 27kin there. 4k of spare seats i reckon

:lolol:

The official figure for Sheffield Wednesday was 25k. It looked less than that game. Quite a few regulars missing where I was. Big gaps in the North End of the East. Lots of viewable seats in the North Stand which there normally are not given it's the hardcore STH area. South constant. More away fans than Wednesday but only by a few 100. Only area I couldn't tell was West Lower.

Between 25 and 26,000. Reasons - Same gaps at the north ends of the east and west lower as there is for every game, the SW corner and first block of the south had plenty in them which is usually a good indication.

It's the system that's idiotic. The money men want to know what they've sold, fans want to know how many turned up. Sometimes I yearn for the days when it was the same number.

I'm not saying the system is perfect but still doesn't answer why you want to ridicule the club on national television. It's not the club's system, it's the one everyone uses.

Basically still a bloody good gate considering a monday night...on the box and some maybe put off re travel issues

Totally agree with that. If Southern had pulled their fingers out post storm it would have been even better but I assume a few had an extra day's holiday. Anything above 20k would be stupendous given tonight's circumstances, given that's what Palarse officially had against Arsenal.

For anyone like Drew who thinks I'm sniping against the club it's not that btw. Knowing your actual bums on seats is much more important when it comes to forecasting your miscellaneous revenue such as food, beer and club shop match day turnover. To not know what the actual numbers are would seem remiss and yet we don't want to announce them due to convention. Not only does this stop The Major from having a complex orgasm but it also stops us having usable stats to shove at companies like Southern and Sodexo when they screw up. If we do have the alternative data what's the harm in publishing it?

I think you're taking me a bit too seriously.

The club absolutely know the actual attendance figures; they simply don't publish them. Why? I have no idea.

Marketing.

If you go to do a tender for advertising space showing you average 22k instead of 27k, they will go for someone else who averages more than 22k.

Thought this would be obvious.
