Nice work, it's sodding hard giving up but i have not had one for three years now and feel the benefits of not smoking! If you do fancy one just take a look at the thread by ifuhatepalacestandup above for advice on whether to spark up or never to spark up?

I am 18, and have never even had a toke, and do not plan to. Not only is it the health problems that put me off, but the money wasted. Well done to anyone trying to give up, I can imagine it is very very hard!

Keep going, gully07. You're doing brilliant attempting to give up.

I can't give up the Benson & Hedges gold. Switched to the silver ones and was eventually smoking twice as many and costing me more so switched back to my original fags. I have given up alcohol this year though so that's progress. :)

I gave up completely, then started again, now I get smoke when I drink and dabble only really on the weekends maybe 5 straights a week. I'm going to give up again though. Might look into one of these fake cigs

I still can't see why people use these e-cigs for giving up?

If you want to give up smoking badly enough then my advice is to go cold turkey. The sense of achievement as each day passes without a smoke far out weighs using any gimmicks to quit.

I have been to pubs and I'm currently staying in a hotel in Ireland where most people seem to be smoking and it isn't a problem... My wife is still smoking around me and I'm ok with that.

It's all about the willpower for me and I know that I will never take another drag again. After smoking 20 a day for 30+ years, that is a bold statement but a fact.

If you want it badly enough from deep within then it's not as hard as you may think.

Good luck, you can do it.

Agree with everything you say. Nothing much more to add.

Those e-cigs still contain nicotine which keeps you hooked. People won't admit it but i bet they still smoke the odd real fag every now and then. Besides if you run out of your e-cig i bet people wouldn't say no to a real one either as the craves kick in.

Some waster at my work does both keeping him forever addicted.

Tomorrow i move onto 4 months completed. I'm no longer addicted or a slave to it. I get the odd pang occasionally but nothing i can't laugh at.

So right, have made various attempts over the years and every time I thought I had cracked it, relaxed, had a beer and then..... now trying again for the 14th time!!

I gave up 35 years ago. Had the occasional ciggie (every 3 or 4 months) for a few years and then stopped even that. Smoked a few cigars and have the occasional drag of Jamaican baccie but have no desire for a ciggie at all. I know this sounds trite but there is only one way to stop smoking - STOP SMOKING. JUST STOP SMOKING. Use your willpower until the body cleanses itself of the addictive poison and then you'l;l be home and dry. Good luck. You can do it.

Agree totally. For anyone trying to give up, GIVE UP! It's a mindset.
