Southern used to stuff up once, maybe twice a fortnight when I was travelling to London, and yes although I paid around £3200 for the pleasure of their service, it was often not their fault.

It did suprise me when I first came to this land how poor the transport services were, but to drag an archaic track and rolling stock system to the modern era is going to take more than a few years. But its better than nothing!

I nearly didn't get off at Shoreham the first time I came here as I didn't realize you had to open the doors yourself (slam door train)! Luckily someone behind me shoved me out of the way and opened it whilst looking at me weirdly!!

Shame there are so many moaners in this country..

Out of interest, what sort of thing have they done to piss off the staff? What was a mediocre service anyway plummeted further almost from the second they took over.

This is only what I've heard from staff, so I can't guaruntee it's 100% correct.

They have sacked their driver managers made them re-apply for their jobs then said they are not successful.

Refused to budge on pay rises where as Thameslink had an agreement in place for a rise each year.

Cut Xmas bonus by 50%.

Taking drivers "off track" effectivly suspending them, using the excuse they are not competent to do their job. One driver had apparently being driveing trains for 23 years without any incident.

Morale is VERY low at FCC at the moment, and there is talk of indutrial action.

The way FCC are headed they won't keep their franchise for very long.

Then again the train service from Cronnella in to the Sydney CBD isn't exactly the Shinkansen is it :lolol:

Just proves how rubbish it used to be that you found it worse here

Cronulla to the city is a big commute, and having done it for a few years I never had cancellations, or delays, although often had heaving trains in sweltering conditions until the Tangara came in...

Still was better than what I found here...

Just to cheer you all up...

Train services between Gatwick Airport and Haywards Heath are being disrupted due to a landslip. North bound line is currently blocked.

Should someone get a pay rise as a matter of course every year?

Shouldn't it be a case of proving, through your performance, that a pay rise is justified?

Yes, but it was an agreement between train operator and union. Part of a 3 year deal I believe.

Southerns performance has got signifcantly better than two years ago. These are official fact from rail regualtors, not me. I quite agree with you that it's a joke when you hear the same old announcements about lack of rolling stock or a signal faliure. Unfortunatly it's the time of year when the weather is the enemy of the railway too.

Do you want to go back to 4 years ago when Connex were in charge with 40 year old trains?

Southern has invested millions of ££'s into new trains and making stations safer and cleaner. Since they have taken over all the slam door trains have gone. This is the opposite of First Capital Connect who have pissed off many, both passengers and staff.

FCC are very good to work with on service recovery where as Southern are a right pain in the bum, The only thing that motivates Southern is money and how much of it they can claim from other rail companies in panalties.

I beg to differ a bit there VH. In real terms Southern's delays are just as bad as they've allways been it's just they're ability to push they're delays onto other rail companies thats improved.

If thats the case Bozza then I should be due a substabtial pay rise next year but I just know it wont happen! My performance goes up every year because it has too, just to keep pace with the extra work load.

It was a bit inconsiderate having a broken rail right in the middle of a river bridge!
