was more the fact that the whole rail network collapses just cos of some minor incident,

Maybe it was due to the fact there was more than one minor incident going on yesterday morning that slowed up the service recovery?

So what the f*** do you expect to happen then, throw the person off the train at Hassocks whilst they die ?

Maybe he'd like it as part of the conditions of travel that passengers must not collapse and die of a heart attack whilst on board a train? I'm sure he'd feel different if he was taken ill himself on a train though! :nono:

some oldie decided to croak it today at burgess hill this morning, meaning i had to change 3 times from Worthing just to get to London victoria 40minutes late

And there, in a single sentence, we have evidence that commuting brings out the very worst in normally normal decent people. What's that all about? What if it was your nan or grandad Springal?

Why have they been absolute GASH for the past 2 months. They were fine in the summer but I can honestly say I haven't taken a single rush hour train (in either direction) that has been on time.

They are f***ing shit - Southern and Capital Connect. And guess what - prices AGAIN go up above the rate of inflation in January. :nono:

I so dont miss that any more !

Alot of these people who work in london but won't live there is because they don't actually have a good enough job to pay to live in a decent part of London, they think they are too good to live in a less desirable part with all the immigrants ( racist bastards) so re locate to surrey or Brighton and fills the places with Wankers.

f*** of back to London, withyour london attitudes and house prices is what i say.

Here's something to get your tiny brain around. Maybe, just maybe in today's world of employment certain people have to work on more than one site. Y'know, like client facing, attending meetings, sales pitches that sort of thing. Working in the same office in the same town for the rest of your life belongs in the 1920s. And while we're at it why would anyone in their right mind pay even more to live in a smaller dwelling with higher crime rates just to have exactly the same f***ing problem on the tube.

That's all very good and true, of course. Your interlocutor lives...in HUDDERSFIELD. I really think that just about says it all. It's a lifestyle option that I, for one, wouldn't actively pursue...

Ah yes - Huddersfield where most people think The Tube is t'telly and a trip to Leeds is going 'up country'.

On a train...
Some of the posts in this thread are beyond belief. A passenger died yesterday morning, he had a heart attack whilst on a train. All Springal can do is moan he was late for work.

I'm sorry your day was disrupted, but take a moment to think of the blokes family, the train staff and ambulance crew who I imagine all did their very best to try and save his life.

The ambulance crew decided it was too serious to move him from the train, so he had to be treated there and then, sadly the poor guy didn't make it.

Now I know you commuters earn lots of money each year to pay for your gold card, but what do you expect when this sort of thing happens?

Has anybody with a brain complained about yesterday's disruption, given the causes of it? I didn't hear one single word or tut of complaint on my train during our lengthy hold-up, thanks to our being kept well-informed by the driver.

Not that I'm aware of. But a few months ago there was a fatality at Haywards Heath. I was at Victoria and the Brighton bound train wasn't going anywhere due to the fatality. One woman walked up to me and said she didn't care that someone had died, and she had to get to Hassocks as she had a dinner party to perpare. She promptly got told where to go by myself and the driver. She then said it's an utter disgrace that trains were disrupted due to this and would be looking for compensation.

No, no they haven't.

A delay for this reason is totally understandable and also utterly insignificant compared to the feelings of the relatives, helpers etc.

A cancellation twice in one week because the only rolling stock availble to service the timetable had seen better days when the 2 Ronnies were making British Rail jokes isn't. Neither are the same old excuses about leaves on the line and snow that were getting tiresome years ago.

Indeed. Am I allowed to say that I think the service is shit whilst simultaneously understanding that yesterday was a one off owing to a tragic incident?

Oh yes, of course I can. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE ON THIS THREAD EXCEPT ONE PERSON. So all you gimps talking about "some of the posts in this thread" as if we're nearly ALL moaning about yesterdays incident can, frankly, NICK OFF.

Yes I'm, talking to you, Virgo's Haircut. Yesterday's issue does not change the fact that the service is bollocks.

I can't be arsed to argue with Goring because he's an unintelligent goon.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Its insensitive, but the point he is making in a round about way is valid, it seems to take hours for any sort of incident to be rectified and the general impression of Southern is that many of their staff seem pretty disinterested and often kept in the dark about delays.

Disruption is the norm trains are overcrowded and fare dodging is not being addressed in the way that Southern bosses would have you believe as most of their 'security' guards seem unwilling to approach groups of kids vandalising trains or fare dodging, I witnessed three kids scratching windows in a packed carriage, the two 'enforcement' plebs jobsworthing commuters spotted them and made a sharp exit off the train at Norwood, it was pathetic.

I do feel sorry for decent employees of Southern as having to work in that environment must be soul destroying.

bucking the trend here, I am very happy with the service from Portslade in teh mornings ( 7:16) as I know this is tempting fate, but since the new trains came in I have only been late once.....the 17:32 is normally very punctual ( 5 mins here or there) so at least in my case, the service is very good.

Southerns performance has got signifcantly better than two years ago. These are official fact from rail regualtors, not me. I quite agree with you that it's a joke when you hear the same old announcements about lack of rolling stock or a signal faliure. Unfortunatly it's the time of year when the weather is the enemy of the railway too.

Do you want to go back to 4 years ago when Connex were in charge with 40 year old trains?

Southern has invested millions of ££'s into new trains and making stations safer and cleaner. Since they have taken over all the slam door trains have gone. This is the opposite of First Capital Connect who have pissed off many, both passengers and staff.

Out of interest, what sort of thing have they done to piss off the staff? What was a mediocre service anyway plummeted further almost from the second they took over.

None of what you say surprises me. Southern is definitely a fairly reasonable service (although there are still too many delays) but FCC is utter rubbish - they clearly don't invest any money in anything - including staff training.
