Too true. The 0716 Brighton to Victoria has not arrived on time once in what seems like about a month, and neither has the 1832 back to Brighton in the evening.

Is there any specific place you've been getting held up because I might be able to find out the reasons for you!

Reading between the lines, it appears to be on the train.

Get home quickly and safely commuter-folk.

I'm getting in my car for a leisurely drive home through the North Somerset countryside.

(In order to maintain my smugness, I'll not mention the M5 around Bristol is currently closed which will properly feck all the local traffic)

If you spend £300 a month on trains, is it THAT unreasonable to expect them to do what they're supposed to, i.e. take you somewhere on time?

No idea on the way up - I'm usually asleep! Think recently it has been around the Three Bridges/Gatwick area.

The one home is obvious - it hardly ever actually leaves Victoria on time let alone gets to Brighton on time. Strange though, because the train that comes in to Victoria is actually empty so I don't what excuse it has for not being there on time if it hasn't been being used before hand.

Yeah great. Walking is quite SAFE too. And given that the train people seem to find it a real challenge to transport me just 25 miles within 50 minutes, I sometimes feel I may as well do just that.

Hey, why not give yourselves another FAT pay rise in January as reward. Oh, you already have. Carry on.

There's speed restrictions in place around the Gatwick area at the moment which are holding things up a bit and a speed restriction just north of Haywards Heath as well. But i'll have a look at these trains at work anyway!

Not so much a challenge just a job with loads of safety regulations to adhere too. Maybe next time I get a track defect or a points failure you'd rather I just run your train at line speed and let you enjoy the ride as your train comes off the rails and ends up down an embankment or in a high street somewhere?

Sounds like a LAUGH.

I'm blaming you, you daft racist. I'm blaming the companies who line their pockets at the expense of investing in people and proper track.

Excuses, excuses. Whereas the fact is that, for Europe's richest city to be serviced by western Europe's most primitive, outdated rail system shames everyone involved. Step on a train abroad and it's like stepping forward 50 years compared to the shit we get to use here.

I, unlike most commuters, don't blame the people at the coalface for this - years of underinvestment is hardly their fault. But I've also not seen or heard much to suggest that a shit, old-fashionedly British approach unchanged from the 1970s to customer service from rail staff hardly helps. Why do empty trains turn up late from a depot every day, as above? Why can no-one be arsed to find out if a 25 year old train actually works or not before it's full of people?
